In celebration of NAIDOC Week, our centre teams have collaborated with local Indigenous groups to create a week-long event embracing this year’s theme, ‘Keep the Fire Burning’ – a celebration of the strength and vitality of First Nations culture. Fire symbolises a connection to Country, community, and the rich traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This week provides an opportunity for us all to come together, alongside our community, to celebrate these vibrant cultures.    We are proud to host a variety of community-focused activities, including dance performances, art exhibitions, cooking demonstrations, didgeridoo performances, Welcome to Country ceremonies, and smoking ceremonies. As part of this celebration, we are honoured to showcase ‘Visions of Growth: Economic Prosperity,’ an artwork by Cheryl Moggs OAM, a proud Bigambul woman, Aboriginal visual artist, teacher, weaver, cultural leader, and elder from the Goondiwindi region in south-west Queensland. Cheryl's artwork was created as part of QIC’s Reconciliation Action Plan and beautifully narrates the story of traditional First Nations economies, emphasising sustainability, resilience, and 60,000 years of trading practices. It symbolises aspirations for self-determination and economic prosperity.

The celebration and support of grassroots sporting organisations, community clubs, and the volunteers who make these initiatives possible are at the heart of QIC’s long-term mission to foster community spirit and encourage active lifestyles across the local areas we serve.   To further embed this commitment, we recently entered into a national partnership with the Australian Sports Commission, aimed at fostering national pride and inspiring future athletes, volunteers, and local sporting clubs. The “We Build Champions” program celebrates all community champions, emphasising the importance of participation and community involvement in sports and physical activity.   This programme was brought to life at Robina Town Centre on Thursday, which proudly hosted Australian swimming hero Cody Simpson as part of the initiative.   During his visit, Cody inspired local children with his story of perseverance, resilience, trying new things, and hard work, alongside a range of engaging activities such as the Jump Test, Canoe Course, and Steady Skater challenge at the Robina Arena. The event provided the Robina community with a unique opportunity to connect, promote physical activity, and celebrate the spirit of sport at all levels.   Cody’s unique story and success in the pool underscore the significance of exploring new activities, demonstrating dedication, and appreciating the invaluable support from our community’s true local heroes – families, coaches, volunteers, and fans.    We extend our gratitude to everyone who participated and made this event a resounding success.   #WeBuildChampions #CommunityEngagement #RobinaTownCentre #CodySimpson #LocalHeroes #InspireTomorrow #GetActive

We are proud to announce an exclusive partnership with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), including the Australian Institute Of Sport, which will see grassroots sport promoted at QIC shopping centres across the country under the banner of ‘We Build Champions’.   The initiative incorporates pop-up experiences and athlete meet-and-greets through June and July to showcase the value of sporting endeavour at every level, to foster national pride and to inspire future sports stars. It seeks to celebrate champions of all kinds, from the athlete who has trained their entire life to master their skills to the parent who gets up before sunrise to drive their child to training or the volunteer who dedicates their free time to a local club or event.   Michael O'Brien commented: "Through this long-term partnership, our goal is to motivate young Australians at the grassroots level and to support all sporting champions – no matter your age, ability, where you’re from or what role you play in sport – by providing inspiration and local club connections to get involved." This week Chris Brown and Erin Clark attended #BIO24, the globe’s largest gathering of biotech leaders, to share QIC's vision for the Boggo Road Innovation Precinct (BRIP) in Brisbane's inner-south with 18,000 fellow delegates. As master developer of BRIP, the Biotechnology Innovation Organization convention in San Diego proved a powerful opportunity for QIC to connect with international counterparts engaged in building the future of biotech, innovation hubs and life science ecosystems. Key learnings from the event included: • Attracting the brightest minds depends on creating amenity-rich places. • A one-team approach will help deliver a cohesive innovation hub for the city. • Creating successful clusters requires government support and alignment. • People and facilities must be central to the development priorities. • Articulating the mission of the precinct is critical to its competitiveness. While continuing the evolution of QIC’s mixed-use portfolio, we are proud to celebrate the launch of Paul Sadler Swimland’s latest venue and another step forward in the mission we share with MAB Corporation and Gibson Property Corporation to introduce new modes of living and working to outer Melbourne. We are excited to be playing a lead role on an urban renewal project that brings together private sector investments to build the infrastructure and partnerships that will foster scientific breakthroughs.
