This morning we're thrilled to be joined by around 150 of our colleagues from housing and homelessness support services across the Brisbane region for our Tenancy Sustainment Workshop. We've heard some excellent presentations from experts in the sector, addressing the influences and impacts of tenancy sustainment challenges from a wide range of perspectives - academic, community development and engagement, frontline response and government. Workshop participants then worked in groups to co-design a tenancy sustainment framework, drawing on their own experiences in service delivery to identify key elements and influences for a successful framework. This input and collaboration from our sector colleagues is critical in Q Shelter's work in developing operational frameworks and making policy recommendations for government that respond to the needs of the community. We greatly value the expertise, time and passion everyone has brought to today's workshop and thank everyone for being involved. Special thanks to our guest speakers and panellists: ⭐️ Prof Cameron Parsell: University of Queensland ⭐️Milly Nixon and Jocelyn Harrison: Salvation Army ⭐️Liz Parker: Community ⭐️Giang Nguyen: Salvation Army ⭐️Mandi Cook: Department of Housing ⭐️Paul Tommasini: Tenancy Skills Institute and InCommunity Inc The Tenancy Sustainment Workshop is part of the Service Integration Initiative's Synthesis Series of events. #tenancysustainment #housing #homelessness #HomeMatters #BetterTogether

This week, we were delighted to host the National Shelter Council meeting in Brisbane. The National Council brings together members from the national, state, and territory shelter network, along with its associate members from across the country. The network represents housing and homelessness issues in their respective jurisdictions and advocates for housing outcomes for low-income Australians. Additionally, it aims to develop partnerships for a more successful and healthy housing system overall. As National Shelter heads into its 50th year, there has never been a more important time for a strong national voice on these issues and solutions. A pleasure to host this group at our offices in Spring Hill this week. Last week, Q Shelter staff member Eloise attended the Housing Older Women Movement's Brisbane Southside forum on community-led housing hosted at the Food Connect Foundation Shed in Salisbury. Some excellent examples of projects and proposals were discussed, community assets mapped and next steps developed towards a community-led housing project which centres older women tenants being delivered within the next five years. Q Shelter has a strong commitment towards diversity, equity and inclusion in our workplace and in the wider community; and working towards reconciliation and closing the gap for First Nations peoples. As part of our commitment and work in these areas as an organisation and employer, we have recently established two new internal staff working groups: for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and for our Reconciliation Action Plan. This past week saw the first meetings take place for both of these working groups. Building and expanding on the work of our previous Diversity and Inclusion committee, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) working group seeks to ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusion are consistently prioritised and embedded into Q Shelter's policies, procedures, and everyday interactions. The new DE&I group is chaired by Maya Glassman who is our Sector Capacity Team Project Officer, and the group has already tabled some excellent ideas and projects to strengthen inclusivity and belonging at Q Shelter. Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) working group also met this week for the first time, and we welcomed Wade Krueger from Krueger Consultancy Services - KCS who will facilitate the group as they work on Q Shelter's Innovate RAP. Wade provided the group with an overview of what is involved in developing and publishing a RAP, and each member of the committee shared insights on why it is important for Q Shelter to have an Innovate RAP as an employer and as a peak body. We are excited about what lies ahead for Q Shelter and our staff with the commencement of these working groups, and the potential flow-on positive impact for Q Shelter members and the housing and homelessness sector as a result. We look forward to bringing you updates on their progress! #HomeMatters #BetterTogether #RAP #DEI #Diversity #Inclusion #Equity #Reconciliation

🧠Mental health and wellbeing at work, and asking 'R U OK? any day💛 We had a great turnout for our online Positive Psychology for Resilience in the Workplace training yesterday, which just so happened to also be R U OK? Day. A total of 57 people joined us for the two-hour workshop, covering strategies and tools for stress management, self-care, mindset and goal setting. The group even took part in some meditation and mindful breathing exercises. We are running more mental health-focused training courses in the coming weeks: 🔹Mental Health First - Accredited Online Training: Wed, 9 Oct https://bit.ly/4dZzKzr 🔹Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST): Wed 6 Nov https://bit.ly/3B4eWbJ Later in the day, the Q Shelter team got together for lunch as part of R U OK? Day. The group discussed how to check in with others and have follow-up conversations, shared their own experiences in being clear and open about mental health, and how group hobbies and activities can build community and foster positive mental health and wellbeing. There's even talk now about a potential Q Shelter choir! Check out the R U OK? resources here: https://bit.ly/4cZszpS #RUOK #MentalHealth #HomeMatters #BetterTogether
