  • It’s Speech Pathology Week (25 to 31 August) and we want to acknowledge the brilliant Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) who work in state schools across Queensland. Natalya has been working as a Senior SLP since 2016. She said one of her highlights in the role was when she worked in Central Queensland, as it elevated her skills and experience in ways she didn’t expect. ‘One of the schools I would visit was the Longreach School of Distance Education, which was really exciting and definitely broadened my clinical skills with using telepractice as a mode of service delivery,’ she said. ‘I was able to transfer these skills to implement a telepractice service to other schools across the region, which successfully gave students access to more frequent therapy sessions. There is such diversity within the role and I am fortunate to be able to explore so much of Queensland. ‘I love the work-life balance you can achieve living in a rural community with such a short work commute. My weekends were full because there was so much to choose from like regional race days, rodeos or I took advantage of the many tourist attractions the region had to offer; I’ve tried activities that I never would have before. ‘Visiting and working across the different schools, the staff are always welcoming and the students are so excited when they have visitors. ‘I encourage anyone considering SLP positions in rural and remote areas to go in with an open mind for any opportunities that come your way. You learn to back yourself and even if you only do a year or two, you will have gained knowledge and clinical skills that will stick with you for a lifetime.’ ‘It’s an experience you won’t forget!’ Learn more about working as a Speech Language Pathologist on our website: https://lnkd.in/gq4fPeTt #SLP #SpeechLanguagePathology #SpeechLanguagePathologists #Queensland

  • 👗 Our outfit of the day is Ambassador Melissa’s in Far North Queensland – where ☀️ summer dresses ☀️ don’t have to hide at the back of the wardrobe for a whole season. 😎 Originally from Canada, Melissa was used to below 0-degree ❄️ winters but in FNQ she’s experienced a whole new kind of season. 🌴🌊🌊 ‘I love defying winter norms in FNQ: sunscreen on, jumper off!’ she said. ‘In Canada, we had internal heaters on 24/7 in winter and I never left home without a scarf, hat, jacket and boots. Queensland winter is much milder where I may only need a jacket for a few weeks. 🧥 The mild, pleasant weather makes it my favourite season for camping 🏕️ and adventures 🎣. Nothing beats sitting by a campfire on a “cold” winter’s night of 15 degrees! I love being a teacher in Queensland for many reasons but one is the variety of schools and areas to get out and experience. I’ve been to Mornington Island, Yarrabah, Kuranda and now Tully, and have been spoiled for beautiful weather and activities to fill the time and fill my wellbeing cup outside the classroom.’ 💙 Cold this winter? Warm up in Queensland. Find out about our teaching opportunities at: https://lnkd.in/gf56teS2

  • State schools across Queensland are continuing to celebrate Children’s Book Week and we wanted to share this great picture of Joel Davis, Principal of Gindie State School in Central Queensland, and one of our inspiring Teach Queensland Ambassadors who celebrated with his students and dressed as Mickey Mouse. ‘Book Week celebrations were in full swing at Gindie State School last week. With this year’s theme being ‘Reading is Magic’, My team and I dressed as Disney characters and each read a page from the beautiful book, ‘The Magic is in You’,' Joel shares. Happy Book Week celebrations to all of our Queensland state school students and staff across the state. #BookWeek #TeachQld #2024BookWeek
