Emerging leaders and young professionals in the transport and infrastructure sector are at the heart of Roads Australia’s Emerging Leaders Program, sponsored by CPB Contractors. Equipping these professionals with networking skills and facilitating their access to meet and learn from industry leaders is one of our most important goals. Our upcoming #EmergingLeaders Breakfast Series will provide an opportunity for them to do just that – while enjoying a delicious pastry or two. 🥐 ☕ We’ll post the individual events in comments below 👇 ; or take a look through upcoming events here: https://lnkd.in/ge3GCFPC #Leaders #YoungProfessionals #Transport #Infrastructure #Construction #Roads #Australia #Networking

Road safety is both an engineering and an energy problem to be solved, according to Michael Fitzharris, an Associate Professor with the Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC). Michael’s research has found that even compliant drivers aren’t supported by our current road safety system – particularly when our roads and infrastructure can be better designed to support accident prevention and reduce impact severity. #RoadSafety #Transport #Infrastructure #Australia #AccidentResearch #MonashUniversity #ReducingTrauma #Roads

With the number of fatalities on Australia’s roads increasing by 10 per cent in the past 12 months as of July 2024, how can industry further support a reduction in trauma on our roads? This is the central focus of the Roads Australia Safety Working Group, chaired by RA Board Director Nicole Green and Anita Langford, First Assistant Secretary at the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts. As part of our safety policy priority, last week our Executive Director for Policy Development Mandi Mees, curated the national ‘Accelerating our road safety goals’ workshop. Over a hundred attendees joined the workshop, both online across the nation, and in-person in #Sydney, #Brisbane and #Melbourne, demonstrating the transport and infrastructure sector’s commitment to supporting road safety. A special shout-out to our in-person hosts, Transurban’s Verity Turner in Sydney, Liz Waller in Melbourne, and Georgia Robazza in Brisbane, who helped facilitate discussion. We’ll be sharing more insights, outcomes and analysis from the experts who contributed over the coming weeks so stay tuned.

Roads Australia 2024 Fellow, William Rillo, is a strong advocate for the Fellowship Program, describing it as “transformational.” He is an Associate Director with Infrastructure Advisory Group helping project teams transform government policy into commercial partnerships, technical designs and on-site construction works. He currently leads the team delivering the Eastern Freeway Upgrades from Hoddle Street to the Burke Alliance transaction in Melbourne, with the North East Link and Major Road Projects Victoria. Will has been “fortunate to have many great leaders, especially Scott Bayley and the executive team at Infrastructure Advisory Group, who are committed to developing their talent and have opened doors for me professionally and as a leader.” But in terms of the greatest impact on his career, Will feels “hugely influenced in the early stages of my career” by Peter Doran, who exemplified “how to lead an engaged team as well as challenged me to take a strategic approach to my career” while fostering a growth mindset. Will’s experience with the Program has found his “network has blown up” and the program has facilitated him “to build relationships with some of the best professionals in the industry while rubbing shoulders with the inspiring group of mentors, who are so generous with their time and insights.” We look forward to continuing to engage Will, and all our Fellowship alumni, through future Roads Australia programs and events. Applications for RA’s 2025 Fellowship Program will be open until 6 September. 📣 Infrastructure NSW is asking you to have your say on decarbonising infrastructure delivery policy. For all Roads Australia members who are involved in infrastructure planning, business case development, design, procurement, or delivery, consider taking the ten-minute survey to contribute your insights and feedback in a meaningful way. Details through here: https://lnkd.in/gG4KN76C
Infrastructure NSW has released a survey to assess industry readiness to deliver low carbon infrastructure as part of the commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. The survey results will provide insights into existing capability on embodied emissions across the sector and prepare industry ahead of the NSW Decarbonising Infrastructure Delivery Policy becoming operational in April 2025. We want to hear from professionals working across the infrastructure project lifecycle, including both buildings and linear infrastructure. If you’re involved in infrastructure planning, business case development, design, procurement, or delivery, please take 10 minutes to answer the survey. All data gathered will remain anonymous. Participate in the survey: https://lnkd.in/gG4KN76C Thank you for your participation!

Amazing work to complete such a transformational project for New South Wales. A huge congratulations especially to all Roads Australia members who have been involved with the Sydney Metro; and to Ehssan Veiszadeh for working to establish that vision. “You’re spending billions on one rail line to a small number of communities in Sydney’s north west, with no major political uplift??” I heard that more than once when I first joined government in 2015, shortly after major construction had started on the Northwest Rail Link. Believe it or not, Sydney Metro wasn’t universally supported when it was first committed. The idea for the metro had been in the works for some time, with previous governments scoping the project and preparing it as an option in future years. But it needed a champion to see the project built – one that was happy to take the heat, both internally and externally. And one that could make the case with the public as to why it was a worthwhile project. With the official opening of the Sydenham to Chatswood line today, it seems we can all now finally see this vision. The only real question being asked is why this incredible service hadn’t been delivered earlier. Of course it wasn’t ever just about one rail line. It was the first step of delivering a world class turn-up-and-go service that much of the developed world has been enjoying for decades. At its core, Sydney Metro was and is about economic development. It’s about giving people across Sydney, who for too long have endured the tyranny of distance, greater opportunities to connect with each other and to economic centres of the city. I know firsthand from my own family living in the northwest, including in Kellyville Ridge and Norwest, that the Metro has been nothing short of transformational. I can only imagine how lives will be transformed after today’s opening and with the ever-expanding network. Congratulations to all who have been involved in designing, procuring, planning, constructing and operating this monumental project. A special shout out to my old boss Gladys Berejiklian for her dedication to seeing the project through and for making the case. The new Sydney Metro City line is now open in New South Wales! We’re proud to have delivered the metro station at Central Station, as well as the Sydenham Station and Junction Upgrade as a joint venture partner with John Holland. Earlier today we visited both stations with the Project Leaders Sean Robertson and Jessica Breen (pictured) to watch the first commuters use the new infrastructure. This is truly a city shaping project, which our teams can be proud of. Laing O’Rourke Central Station Metro #PowerofExperience #SydneyMetroCity #CentralStationMetro
