Transport’s greenhouse gas emissions are the nation’s third largest and fastest growing. Without effective intervention the sector is projected to be Australia’s largest emitter by 2030. It is time for transformative change in how we move Australia’s people and goods. In June, the Public Transport Association Australia New Zealand, Roads Australia and the Australasian Railway Association (ARA), with support from Arup, hosted a joint Summit to bring together our industry’s leaders to tackle this challenge. Over 40 delegates representing the public and private transport sector identified three key priorities to reduce national carbon emissions from transport: ◾ A mode shift first approach, to get more people using public and active transport more often. ◾ Accelerate an equitable transition to zero emission vehicles and rolling stock. ◾ Consistently and adequately assess whole of life carbon. We have now released our Outcomes Report summarising the key themes of the Summit. You can download the report here: https://lnkd.in/g5GuM2T2 Thank you to our event partners: Sally Stannard, Public Transport Association Australia New Zealand, Caroline Wilkie, Australasian Railway Association (ARA), Kate West, Dr Bree Trevena and Arup and all our Members and industry colleagues who shared their insights. Roads Australia remains committed to working collaboratively across the transport sector to help reach #NetZero by 2050. #Transport #Industry #Roads #RoadsAustralia #Decarbonisation

💥 Each tunnel boring machine (TBM) breakthrough on a project is monumental in its own right; however, TBM Marlene's recent breakthrough efforts at our St Marys site were extra special 😍 as it also marked the #MajorMilestone of all tunnelling now complete on the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport, Station Boxes and Tunnelling project. Over ten months, TBM Marlene excavated 443,000 tonnes of spoil as she traversed beneath major infrastructure such as the M4 Motorway and the Great Western Highway to deliver a 4.3-kilometre tunnel. You can read all about this milestone here: https://lnkd.in/g5wuUpp2 Want to hear more about what's happening across CPB Contractors? Breaking new ground! The #ACCIONAteam is proud to support a world-first initiative on the Suburban Rail Loop East project in Melbourne. For the first time ever, an all-women tunnel boring machine (TBM) crew will help build the twin tunnels for this transformative project. Led by SRL East Tunnels South Construction Manager Isolde Piet, this crew of 25 skilled professionals will include TBM operators, gantry and segment crane operators, and various support roles. This groundbreaking initiative aims to create new pathways for women in construction and inspire the next generation of female engineers and construction professionals. At least 10% of total labour hours on the tunnels will be worked by women, with tunnelling set to begin in 2026. The Suburban Rail Loop East will deliver six new underground stations between Cheltenham and Box Hill, dramatically reducing travel times and connecting communities to homes, jobs, and world-class public services across Melbourne's east and southeast. #SustainableInfrastructure #InvestInThePlanet #WomenInConstruction #MelbourneInfrastructure

Roads Australia was pleased to share insights from our Safety Working Group with Hon David Michael, WA’s Minister for Road Safety, ahead of the state’s Road Safety Summit. While many stakeholders must come together to recognise the challenges in improving safety on our roads for all users and road workers, our industry and leaders recognise the role infrastructure plays in influencing driver behaviour, ensuring infrastructure is designed to limit the severity of crashes and reduces impact limits during a crash for when drivers make a mistake. Building in this perspective during the planning phase of all transport infrastructure projects is key. This includes ensuring infrastructure design standards and industry capability are updated in line with the latest in road safety research. To find out more about Roads Australia’s work in this space, please reach out to [email protected] or subscribe to our #Insider magazine where we will continue to highlight ours and our members’ work in this space: https://lnkd.in/egPRkdBb You can also read our submission here: https://lnkd.in/eH49EtaU

The final stage of Sydney Gateway opened to traffic on Sunday 1 September, providing motorists with a new toll-free connection between the Sydney Airport precinct and wider motorway network. The St Peters Interchange connection is the last element of the Sydney Gateway project and complements the Domestic Terminals flyover, International Terminal connection, New Link Road, New Airport Drive, and Twin Arch bridges – which opened in respective stages from November 2023 onwards. Five kilometres of new motorway will save motorists an estimated 17 minutes between the airport and St Peters Interchange, connecting to the M8, as well as Western Sydney via the M4 and M5. Heavy vehicle traffic on local streets around Mascot will be reduced as up to 10,000 trucks a day, travelling to the airport and Port Botany.
