"Los Angeles is in a 4-year sprint to deliver a car-free 2028 Olympics" With the Olympic torch extinguished in Paris, all eyes are turning to Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympics. The host city has promised that the next Summer Games will be “car-free.” For people who know Los Angeles, this seems overly optimistic. The car remains king in LA, despite growing public transit options. When LA hosted the Games in 1932, it had an extensive public transportation system, with buses and an extensive network of electric streetcars. The safety rating results for the MG 5 provide for interesting reading. It scored: 37% in Adult Occupant Protection 58% in Child Occupant Protection 42% in Vulnerable Road User Protection 13% in Safety Assist "The MG 5 recorded significant injury risk measurements for the chest (Poor) and legs (Poor) of the driver in the frontal offset test, and the chest (Poor) and legs (Poor) of the rear passenger in the full width frontal test. Penalties were applied for chest deflection and seatbelt loading exceeding injury limits, and hazards behind the dashboard structure." "Loading on the head and neck of the child dummies in the MG 5 was significantly higher than seen in most current generation vehicles, with Weak results seen for three of the four dummies across both the frontal and side impact tests - indicating a lack of design effort to prevent rear-seat occupant injury in frontal impact and side impact scenarios." John Cassel (TMAA President) and Matthew Bereni (TMAA CEO) are taking this opportunity to catch up with some of our members and colleagues, including Samantha McAndrew (National Manager at Workforce Road Services and RIAA President), Paul Robinson (General Manager at RIAA), Craig Riley (Managing Director at Image linemarking, Jenny Lane (General Manager at Gold Lane Traffic Management), and Peter Frazer OAM (President at SARAH Group (Founder: National Road Safety Week).

Alongside allied health professionals, suppliers and service providers play an important role in supporting safe transport outcomes for children with disabilities and medical conditions. Strengthening the knowledge of these key professionals through recognised training and support can improve service provision and advance children’s rights to travel safely on our roads. Victorian suppliers and service providers can now apply for FREE places in Australia’s leading specialised training course, thanks to the Victorian Government’s Community Road Safety Grants Program. This course is designed to strengthen knowledge and understanding of the motor vehicle transport needs of children with disability, covering topics such as: 🔎 relevant standards 🔎 road rules 🔎 latest research 🔎 roles and responsibilities 🔎 the importance of safe installation and use of products. The ARSF is deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dr Ray Shuey. He was a leader in International Road Safety Policing and a passionate road safety advocate. We thank Ray for his contributions to the Australians Road Safety Awards and long-term support of the ARSF.
