Siblings Fletcher and Mavis demonstrated extraordinary bravery by saving their Dad's life after he had an epileptic seizure. A normal day splitting wood turned nightmare when Dad Jeremy suddenly collapsed. Whilst following the DRSABCD action plan, Fletcher removed the axe from the area and sent his youngest sister, Mavis, for help. When he noticed his father was turning blue, he moved him into the recovery position, allowing his father to cough and clear his airway. Whilst on the phone to the first responders, he calmly and clearly provided personal details for his father. Congratulations Fletcher and Mavis, you are little heroes making a big difference! 🦺🚧 As we reach Tradies National Health Month this August, it's time to highlight the health and safety of our tradies, who make up a third of Australia’s workforce. Despite their numbers, tradies account for 58% of workplace injuries, with 190 serious claims daily and high fatality rates. Worksites pose numerous risks, from uneven surfaces and heavy lifting to falls and power tool mishaps. To mitigate these dangers, we emphasise the importance of proper PPE, safe lifting techniques, accessible first aid kits, and mental health support. Let's prioritise tradie safety and ensure they return home safe every day. #TradiesHealth Read our blog on Tradie First Aid: stjohnvic.org/14dcc5

🚨 Important Update for the Construction Industry in Victoria 🚨 As of 1 July 2024, the definition of engineered stone has changed in Victoria. The change is made under the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 (OHS Regulations). The use of crystalline silica has been banned from on all work involving the manufacture, supply, processing, or installation of engineered stone benchtops, panels, and slabs. This decision follows growing concerns about the health risks associated with engineered stone products, particularly the dangers posed by crystalline silica dust. As an organisation committed to safety and wellbeing, St John Ambulance Victoria supports measures that protect the health of workers across the construction industry. For those affected, it's crucial to stay informed about the implications of this ban and ensure compliance with the new regulations. We encourage everyone involved to prioritise safety protocols and consider alternative materials that uphold both quality and worker health standards. #ConstructionSafety #EngineeredStoneBan #VictoriaSafety #WorkplaceHealth #StJohnVic
