About us

At St Leonards Physiotherapy, we treat patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal and biomechanical issues, including neck and back pain. Our practice has been operating in St Leonards for over 30 years. Whether you are a weekend warrior or experienced athlete, we have sporting injuries covered. Our Sports Physiotherapists specialise in the assessment, treatment and management of running injuries. We provide comprehensive work rehabiliation for the injured worker, and this can include coming to your workplace for an ergonomic assessment. Our exercise classes have a maximum of 4 people per class, and are designed to help you progress from treatment back to normal activities. We specialise in Paediatric Physiotherapy and have 2 physiotherapists who are highly experienced in the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents. We offer Kids Pilates classes for children who need more supervision with exercise. We have rooms in the gym at North Sydney Leagues Club (Norths Fitness). This allows us to assess and treat you using North’s state of the art gym equipment, and build up a safe and appropriate gym based exercise program. Call the practice (9438 1782) to make an appointment with one of our physiotherapists at Norths Fitness. Our promise is that we will always be punctual, and that we will give you as much time as is needed to accurately assess your problem and provide safe, effective treatment. Your session will always be one-on-one, and the majority of treatment is hands on. We will provide a comprehensive exercise program so that you can take control of your own body, and won’t need to keep coming back for endless maintenance treatment.

  • 📚 Word of the Day: Taping 📚 Derived from the Middle English word "tapen," meaning "to fasten or secure with strips of adhesive material," taping has ancient origins - Ancient Greek and Roman physicians used cloth strips to support injured limbs, laying the groundwork for modern taping techniques! Today, taping has evolved into a sophisticated tool in physiotherapy. Physiotherapists utilise adhesive tapes to provide support, stability, and relief to injured muscles and joints. Taping offers benefits such as reducing pain and swelling, improving joint function, and enhancing proprioception—the body's awareness of its position in space. Curious about how taping could benefit you? Our skilled physiotherapists at St Leonards Physiotherapy are here to provide personalised advice and guidance to support your rehabilitation journey. Stay tuned for more insights into physiotherapy! #Physiotherapy #Taping #InjuryRehabilitation #WordOfTheDay #Physio #Physiotherapist #StLeonards #StLeonardsPhysio #StLeonardsPhysiotherapy

  • 🌿 Lifestyle Tip: Take a Minute to Breathe Every Day 🌿 In our busy lives, it's easy to forget the importance of taking a moment to breathe. Incorporating just a minute of mindful breathing into your routine can make a huge difference for your well-being. 🕒 Make it a Habit: Set aside a specific time each day -whether in the morning, during your lunch break, or before bed - to pause and focus on your breath. Even one minute of deep breathing can help calm your mind, reduce stress, and promote relaxation. 💭 Mindful Awareness: Pay attention to each breath as it enters and leaves your body. Notice the rise and fall of your chest or the expansion and contraction of your belly. Immerse yourself in the present moment. 🌬️ Breathe Better, Live Better: By making mindful breathing a daily habit, you'll cultivate a greater sense of inner peace, clarity, and resilience to navigate life's challenges with ease. Take a deep breath in, and exhale slowly. Remember, it only takes a minute to transform your day. #Mindfulness #BreatheBetter #Wellness #HealthyHabits #Physio #Physiotherapy #Physiotherapist #StLeonards #StLeonardsPhysio #StLeonardsPhysiotherapy

  • 🏋🏻 HIIT vs. Cardio: The Workout Debate 🏃♀️ What type of exercise should you do? Spoiler alert = all of them (and especially exercise you enjoy)! Cardio boosts heart health, strength training builds muscles and bone density, while flexibility exercises enhance mobility and reduce injury risk. Incorporating all three promotes overall fitness, ensuring a well-rounded and resilient body. But – how should you work your cardiovascular system? 🔍 A 2014 research study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine compared High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) with traditional cardio (Moderate-Intensity Continuous Training, MICT). 📊 Findings: HIIT significantly increases cardiorespiratory fitness by almost double compared to MICT in patients with lifestyle-induced chronic diseases. But remember, everyone is different. At St Leonards Physiotherapy we believe in tailoring an exercise program for you. Both HIIT and cardio have their merits—choose what you enjoy and can sustain over time. #FitnessScience #HIIT #MICT #Cardio #Physio #Physiotherapy #Physiotherapist #StLeonards #StLeonardsPhysio #StLeonardsPhysiotherapy
