Last week, TCA CEO, Damian Kassabgi met with WA Premier Roger Cook and cabinet members Hon Paul Papalia, Hon David Michael, and Hon Simone McGurk, leading discussions on how WA can leverage its current business landscape to boost innovation and attract more STEM talent to the state.    We've been collaborating with the WA Government to showcase the state's tech strengths, including success stories like Canva, which started in WA, and Healthengine, Australia's largest consumer healthcare platform, founded and still based in WA. We project that by 2030, the sector could employ up to 94,000 workers in WA. However, while WA's tech sector shows promise, there's significant room for growth.   The TCA fully supports the WA Government's ambitions to foster innovation and draw more STEM professionals to the state, paving the way for WA to nurture globally competitive tech companies that can export to the world. We look forward to continuing our work with the WA Government to realise the full potential of the state's tech ecosystem.   #WATech #Innovation #STEMTalent #AustralianTech #TechCouncilAustralia

Great to see this announcement by Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles of a $2b investment in cyber and AI capabilities, to be delivered through a strategic partnership with TCA member Amazon Web Services (AWS) to build a Top Secret Cloud in Australia.   TCA research has shown that global tech companies such as AWS play a major role in helping to skill local tech workers and enable new jobs and innovation.   We will continue to support efforts towards the Government’s goal of being a world leader in cyber security by 2030. #cybersecurity #tca #austech

An honour joining the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon. Richard Marles, this morning to announce a $2 billion partnership between the Australian Government and AWS to deliver a “Top Secret" cloud for our nation's defence and intelligence agencies. The new cloud will unlock powerful artificial intelligence and machine learning, and cyber capabilities for the government while enabling secure data sharing at scale. I'm excited about working with local Australian businesses to design and build this cloud, and the opportunities we have to drive innovation, job creation, and economic growth for our country. AWS has proudly supported Australian customers for more than 12 years and we'll continue to invest in our country's future for generations to come. https://lnkd.in/gE7AbfiB

Earlier this week, Tech Council CEO Damian Kassabgi spoke to Sky News Australia about the Tech Council’s new report on Meeting the AI Skills Boom. The report reveals there are already 33,000 people working in AI-related jobs in Australia - about the same number as there are school principals or architects. This could grow to up to 200,000 by 2030, significantly boosting productivity and injecting billions of dollars into the economy. Skilled workers are needed not just in technical roles, but also in areas such as human resources, sales and governance to successfully scale AI systems and businesses. To avoid future skills shortages and realise this potential, we will need improvements to a combination of entry level training, upskilling of existing workers and mid-career retraining. Thank you Microsoft, LinkedIn and Workday for sponsoring this report!
