The Forgotten Women is an initiative committed to providing housing for homeless women over 55 years of age - the fastest growing homeless population in Australia today. There are more than 40,000 Queensland women over the age of 55 who are doing it tough - suffering financial hardship driven by rising costs, lack of employment, limited superannuation and a lack of affordable housing options. Across the Greater Brisbane area there are over 700 homeless women over 55. Alarmingly this figure is predicted to more than double by 2036. The Forgotten Women's mission is to provide fit-for-purpose housing for homeless women over 55 with individually tailored support. Everyone deserves to live with dignity and age securely in place.

This has been a secret for too long ⬇️ Forgotten women over the age of 55. Australia is living through a housing crisis & older women are the fastest growing group experiencing homelessness. This Thursday night is the Live Like Her Challenge 2024 where myself & many others will sleep in our cars in the Skygate Carpark, Brisbane Airport to raise funds for the The Forgotten Women & THIS will be an adventure! Known as the “hidden homeless” older womens’ cases commonly fall through systematic cracks so they survive by living in cars, couch surfing, physically hiding & rough sleeping. Causes are complex & include financial hardship, lack of employment, limited superannuation, domestic & family violence & lack of affordable housing. Funds raised by the #LLHC2024 will carry out important work led by Mangrove Housing, a nationally registered Community Housing Provider. Donate whatever you can afford to https://lnkd.in/eAW6nu_H? We are very grateful to have FTI Consulting supporting our cause and being a sponsor for the Live Like Her Challenge. We cant wait to see #TeamFTI at the challenge.
We are a proud sponsor of The Forgotten Women, and next week, #TeamFTI will once again participate in their Live Like Her Challenge. Kelly Trenfield, John Park, Claire Packer, Rebecca Hine, Scott Gillard, Natasha Milne, Caroline Halcoop and Carolin Lopez from our Brisbane office, along with many others, will spend a night sleeping in their cars to show their support and raise funds for The Forgotten Women. They will experience a fraction of the discomfort that many women and individuals endure on a daily basis. Women over 55 are often left behind due to insufficient superannuation, relationship breakdowns, the housing crisis and rising living costs. We come together to make a difference in the lives of those who deserve our compassion and assistance. Many of these women are forced to live in their cars or couch-surf and are often 'hidden' among the homeless population and society - which is why they are termed 'The Forgotten Women'.
