Can we see with more than our eyes? The first international solo museum exhibition from up-and-coming contemporary artist Anna Park challenges us to do just that. ‘Look, look. Anna Park’ (@annaparkart via @blum_gallery) is a world-first collection of 15 never-before-seen charcoal and ink works on paper from the lauded South Korean-born, Brooklyn based visionary created specifically for AGWA. They offer a glimpse into how identity is constructed and shattered in our hyper-mediated society, where chaos and beauty collide for a brief time before motion carries us away once more. Playing both the central character and the voyeur peering in, Park draws on her formative experiences, the cultural zeitgeist and pop culture iconography to construct her vast greyscale works spliced with satire. They invite us not just to look, but to engage in the conversation, question our perspectives and allow ourselves to be swept up in fleeting moments of hedonism that remind us what it is to be human. ‘Look, look. Anna Park’ will kick off with a launch party and opening weekend full of intriguing events. The exhibition runs from April 20 – September 8, 2024. If it feels like Angie Colman was everywhere last year, it’s because she was. In 2023, the Perth singer-songwriter performed more than 100 shows, making her a staple on just about every live music stage in the city. On top of her busy performing schedule, Colman released three singles, the catchy party anthem, No Party!, Therapy (Again) and River Song. She was a Triple J Unearthed feature artist and she topped off the year being awarded the RAC Arena Limelight music prize, giving her $15,000 worth of cash and in-kind support to take her music career to the next level.
