This week PIA Qld met with Meaghan Scanlon MP, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Planning and Minister for Public Works, to advocate for our State Election platform. In the lead up to the October Election, PIA Qld is advocating for 6 key priorities, with 12 key asks: 🏘 Incentivise the Delivery of Well-Located Homes to Meet Demand 💰 Allocate Skills and Funds for Climate-Conscious Planning 🗺 Develop a State Settlement Strategy for Sustainable Growth 🤝 Shift Public Perception of Growth and Urban Change 👨🎓 Invest in Scholarships and Resources to Tackle Critical Planner Shortages 📈 Maintain Queensland’s Nation Leading Planning Framework You can read more about our platform here >>> https://lnkd.in/gVHXtSAt In this meeting with Minister Scanlon, we discussed the need to invest in our PIA accredited university programs to ensure they remain viable into the future. We know we have a critical planner shortage, particularly in the regions, and therefore it's important we create a pipeline of future planners. We also discussed PIA's new "Become a Planner" campaign which is aimed at raising awareness of planning as a career choice. Thank you to Minister Scanlon for taking the time to meet and discuss the importance of planning and planners!

PIA ACT excited to announce the release of a Joint Advocacy Election Asks document, developed in collaboration with the Planning Institute of Australia, Australian Institute of Architects, Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA), and Engineers Australia. This document outlines our shared priorities and election asks for the incoming ACT Government. These priorities emphasize strategic urban development, good design, and diverse housing, particularly around transit. We advocate for transparent infrastructure planning linked to growth towards a low-carbon and well-adapted future. Canberra has long been a trendsetter in the built environment, with exemplary architecture, an enviable urban forest, innovative planning policies, and engineering projects that lead best environmental practices. This is an opportunity to discuss policies, initiatives, and ways to collaborate to ensure Canberra builds on its success. We look forward to sharing with our members next week PIA’s 8 Election Priorities as we keep advocating with our built environment collaborators to achieve these goals and create a sustainable, vibrant future for our community. You are invited to read the more detailed version on PIA’s website. https://lnkd.in/g9_zkRyT Thanks for your collaboration Natalia Anderson RPIA, Gay Williamson, Shoba Cole, Julius Yates, Joanna McAndrew, Sky Blair, Rob Henry, Tessa Faucheur

Senator Jenny McAllister was recently appointed as Australia's new Minister for Cities and Minister for Emergency Management - two critical portfolios for planning in Australia. Yesterday, PIA's CEO Matt Collins had the chance to catch up with Minister McAllister to talk all things urban, including housing, climate change and the importance of planning for great communities. This meeting was also a great opportunity to highlight the shortage of planners and introduce PIA's new "Become A Planner" campaign, aimed at raising awareness about planning careers. We look forward to working with Minister McAllister on finalising the National Urban Policy and a new State of Australian Cities Report, which are important government initiatives for Australia's cities. (and, yes, another Minister, another Become A Planner mug 😉) #becomeaplanner #planningmatters
