  • Have you seen the dynamic artwork on the Front Window of the UQ Art Museum? Created by Rosella Namok (Kanthanampu and Aangkum) and entitled 'Old Girls Yarning into the Night' (2024), the artwork captures the storytelling circles of women, beginning their yarning at sunset and ending when the sunrises. In the artwork, which has been transposed from a series of paintings by Namok, she uses colour is used as a marker of time passing – the warm oranges, pinks, and yellows indicating both the ending and beginning of a day. Black paint, representing the night-time sky, has been laid over the top of these colours and then carefully scraped away by the artist’s fingers over and over, creating a rhythmic flow that slides across the canvas’ surface. Facing towards the facade of UQ’s sandstone building, a symbol of knowledge production, Namok’s 'Old Girls Yarning into the Night' invites you into UQ Art Museum, grounding storytelling as a vital life force and repository. Visit UQ Art Museum from 10-4pm Tuesday to Friday and 11-3pm on Saturday's to experience this artwork. Read more at https://bit.ly/4bBMETi 🌙Image #1: Portrait of Rosella Namok.
