Kudos to YiSong Liu for having one of his latest PhD research outputs profiled by QUT (Queensland University of Technology). Starting the week with a new publication, "A Novel #UrbanHeatVulnerability Analysis: Integrating Machine Learning and Remote Sensing for Enhanced Insights" is published in Remote Sensing MDPI. This study introduces an assessment framework, an innovative approach combining #MachineLearning and #RemoteSensing to evaluate urban heat vulnerability with greater precision. With the rising impacts of climate change and urbanisation, understanding and mitigating #UrbanHeatIslands is more critical than ever. Our framework offers: [a] High-resolution spatial analysis for accurate vulnerability mapping. [b] Predictive modelling to forecast future heat risks. [c] Standardised indicators for reliable and actionable insights. This research is a collaborative effort with FEI LI, Madhav Nepal, Kien Nguyen Thanh, and Fatih Dur. We hope this work provides invaluable tools for urban planners, policymakers, and researchers in their efforts to enhance urban resilience and sustainability. Our (w/ Abdulrazzaq Shaamala, Alireza Nili, PhD, Dan Nyandega) paper, "Strategic tree placement for urban cooling: A novel optimisation approach for desired microclimate outcomes," published in #UrbanClimate explores innovative ways to use three #Optimisation #Algorithms —i.e., NSGA-II, PSO, and ACO— to strategically position trees in urban environments for enhancing #ThermalComfort and reducing heat. The study findings revealed the significant impact of tree placement on the #UniversalThermalComfortIndex (UTCI), showcasing how optimised tree locations can substantially cool urban areas. Our new study, "Unlocking #ArtificialIntelligenceAdoption in Local Governments" published in Smart Cities MDPI, consolidates invaluable knowledge on this topic. I had the tremendous pleasure of delivering a keynote speech at The 2nd Global Urban Governance and Policy Conference in #Shanghai, #China. It was an enriching experience to engage with leading experts in urban studies and governance from around the world. One of the standout moments was the opportunity to explore the innovative aspects of Shanghai, guided by the knowledgeable colleagues from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The insights gained and the connections made during this conference were invaluable, highlighting the vibrant and dynamic field of urban governance.
