The next phase of VDI’s electric bus trials in regional NSW is here! 🍃 Earlier this year, VDI’s Yutong battery electric school buses underwent a series of trials across regional NSW as a part of Transport for NSW’s ZEB trials. The initial phase of this trial is currently underway in northern NSW, with Yutong’s 57-seater C12E and 28-seater D7E operating in Tweed Heads with Kinetic and another C12E bus in operation in Armidale with Edward’s Coaches. Following the success of these initial trials, VDI will be deploying two C12E buses and a D7E bus in Queanbeyan, as well as another D7E bus in Narrabri. Throughout these trial periods, VDI and TfNSW will continue to monitor and evaluate these battery electric buses to gather valuable data that will assist with future procurement and deployment of battery electric buses in regional NSW. Frequent delays, infrequent services and inadequate routes are all reasons why residents of North Melbourne are campaigning for critical improvements of the region’s train and bus services. Urban areas across Australia are experiencing rapid growth in population density and development. Unfortunately, this growth has not been matched with the necessary development of adequate public transport services and infrastructure. Because of this, many Australians find it difficult to access hospitals, education and work. Yutong sought to confront this critical issue through the development and introduction of the battery electric E7S. This compact minibus utilises the flexibility of the Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) model, which looks to accommodate the schedules and locations of its passengers to better service urban areas. Though small in size, this bus comfortably fits up to 23 passengers, providing a flexible, accessible and sustainable solution for Australia’s urban operators. The introduction of the Yutong E7S marks a significant step forward in the evolution of public transportation in Australia.
