The VBA has penalised Aycon Constructions & Building Services Pty Ltd (Aycon) and nominee director Mr Seyit Ayranci a total of $250,000 Following a VBA investigation and raids on four sites in April 2024, Aycon was immediately suspended for carrying out domestic building work without the required insurance. The investigation found more than 150 building permit applications were supported by a false domestic building insurance (DBI) certificate. Mr Ayranci’s registration has been cancelled and he’s been disqualified for three years, the statutory maximum. The VBA has zero tolerance for rogue practitioners. The VBA advises that changes were made to the Victoria Planning Provisions and all planning schemes to expand the transitional arrangements for a dependent person’s unit until 28 March 2025. Builder Laith Hanna failed to comply with a written Direction to Fix within the required timeframe for a domestic building site. As a result, the VBA has imposed a penalty of $7,000. The VBA acts within its legislative powers under the Building Act to protect consumers and improve building safety.
