The principal supplier of water, wastewater and drainage services throughout Western Australia.
About us
We’re the principal supplier of water, wastewater and drainage services in Western Australia to hundreds of thousands of homes, businesses and farms, as well as providing bulk water to farms for irrigation. Our services, projects and activities span over 2.6 million square kilometres. We have regional offices in Perth, Bunbury, Albany, Karratha, Geraldton, Northam and Kalgoorlie which allow our employees to provide a high level of professional expertise to customers. We have over 3,500 employees and manage an asset base of over $37 billion in water supply, wastewater, drainage infrastructure and bulk water for irrigation. We’re owned by the Western Australian Government and are accountable to our sole shareholder, the Minister for Water, for delivery of our services in a commercial manner. Most of our surplus is returned to the government as a dividend to contribute to the development of the state, with the remainder reinvested in capital works. Water Corporation was created in January 1996, in a restructure of the water industry in Western Australia. The Water Authority in turn had been created in 1985 through a merger of the former Metropolitan Water Authority, which operated in Perth, the state capital, and the water and wastewater operations of the former WA Public Works Department. We’re the seventh successive agency to deal with these services in Perth, Western Australia. We're evolving... Living on the world’s driest continent, the biggest challenge we face is reducing the impact of climate change. It’s never been more important to work collaboratively with government, industry, and the community, to secure our water future and take care of our home state. To support these efforts, our vision focuses on our operations having the lowest possible environmental impact, are safe for all, and are delivered at the lowest total cost.

Thousands of Perth households will benefit from improved water supply reliability thanks to upcoming water main upgrades. 🙌 💧 We’ll be replacing 30 kilometres of water reticulation mains to cut down on leaks and bursts, ensuring fewer disruptions to your water supply. Starting in early September, this two-year project will span City of Stirling, City of Joondalup, City of Belmont, City of Nedlands, and City of Bayswater. The oldest sections being replaced are over 70 years old. WA-based contractors Hascon Civil and Benang will deliver the first two phases, with the entire project set to wrap up by mid-2026. 🙌 Shoutout to our everyday hero. 🙌 While completing her usual meter replacements round, our very own Lisa-Jayne witnessed a traffic incident and didn’t hesitate to step in as first responder. Her quick thinking to set up a traffic bypass was crucial in preventing further harm. Working together with WA Police Force & St John WA, including Constable Justin, the situation was swiftly and safely resolved. Lisa is just one of our 4000+ strong network of solution seekers serving our community, and we couldn’t be prouder. Thank you Lisa! 💪

It's R U OK Day, a reminder to make time to check in with ourselves and each other. 💛 Creating a mentally healthy community requires the commitment and involvement of everyone. We can all make a difference in each other's lives by taking a moment to ask someone how they’re doing, not just today, but every day. 🤗 #RUOK Pictured is our Great Southern team who recently added this important reminder to a storage container at our Esperance Wastewater Treatment Plant. 🙌

We've taken another step towards our net zero commitments, establishing pine plantations in the South West to help offset carbon emissions. 🌱 ♻️ Over 1,470 hectares of radiata pines have been planted near Boyup Brook and Boddington. Approximately 2 million trees have been planted at these sites helping to sequester an estimated 450,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent over the next 25 years. 🌳 Partnering with the Forest Products Commission, Western Australia, these plantations will generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) to offset emissions from essential water and wastewater services across WA. Additionally, the mature pines will be harvested sustainably to support the WA housing and construction industries.

We're excited to be playing a leading role in the creation of a national working group of water utilities delivering services in Aboriginal communities. Led by Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) under its First Nations Water Program, the Clean Water and Sanitation Network will support an industry-wide approach to delivering water services to First Nations communities. 💧 SA Water and NT Power & Water have also joined as founding members, and our own Head of Water Quality, Rachel Miller will act as network chair. 🙌 The network will be a great platform for utilities to exchange ideas, collaborate, and learn from each other’s experiences. This will be especially valuable as we progress on our Aboriginal Communities Water Services program.
