🏗 Last Thursday our Building Approval and Certification team along with the Business Support team held the inaugural Wollondilly Building and Development Forum. 👷♀️ Hosted in the Council Chambers, the Forum provided a great opportunity for the stakeholders from the Shire’s home building and development industries to come together, network and hear from some fantastic speakers, including our very own Stephen Gardiner who spoke on Growth Areas. We also heard from Tim Rossiter, MiTek General Manager who spoke on residential timber framing including engineering products and software, and Eric Byrne from Byrne Technical Services who presented on waterproofing construction changes and latest revision of NCC and Standards. 👏 Well done team!

Our events team deliver some great events for our community throughout the year including our Australia Day celebrations, Thirlmere Festival of Steam, Spring Garden Competition, BLOOM: Wollondilly Garden Expo & Plant fair, Christmas Lights competition plus our Illuminate event which is on 20-22 September 2024. 🏞️ NEW MANAGER PARKS & RECREATION APPOINTED AT WOLLONDILLY SHIRE COUNCIL 🏞️ After a competitive recruitment process, Daniel Grimson has been appointed to the role of Manager Parks & Recreation in an exciting internal promotion. Daniel has been part of the team at Wollondilly since January 2017, when he started as a Project Officer in the Infrastructure Planning Department after five years at Bankstown City Council. He moved into the Infrastructure Operations Team in 2019 as a Civil Projects Officer and then into the Building and Procurement Team Leader role, after delivering the Warragamba Inclusive Playspace. Dan joined the Parks and Recreation Team as the Buildings and Operations Team Leader in 2022 and held the role of Local Emergency Management Officer from 2021 to 2023 throughout the various flood events in 2022. On being appointed to the role, Daniel said, “I am looking forward to leading the team through the imminent growth and maintaining the focus on community satisfaction and service delivery. The growth of Council will see many new assets come online, and I will continue to place attention on reinvigorating our existing parks, reserves and community buildings.” Director Shire Services Peter Buckley was excited to announce the promotion of Daniel to the role. “Since joining Wollondilly Shire Council in January 2017, Daniel has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication, and lives our Wollondilly Shire Council values every day. Daniel’s leadership during the flood events of 2022 as our Local Emergency Management Officer is a testament to his commitment and capability,” he said. “With Daniel’s strong focus on stakeholder, community and facility management, he brings a wealth of experience to this new role and I am sure the organisation will be so pleased for Daniel, particularly his own team members. 🐶 The dogs of Wollondilly came out in force yesterday for our Dilly Doggy Day Out event at Picton Sportsground. The rain held off and the market stalls, displays and competitions were a big hit with both two-legged and four-legged visitors. 🐕 Thanks to our animal shelter staff and rangers (pictured with friends) as well as our hardworking Events team for putting together such a fun event!

🚑 Service providers are a vital source of information for understanding community health needs. This morning, Wollondilly's service providers were invited to share their healthcare insights as part of the Wollondilly Health Alliance Health Needs Assessment. 👥 The session was attended by 30 service providers at the Shire Hall in Picton together with Health Alliance partners Wollondilly Shire Council, South Western Sydney Local Health District and South Western Sydney PHN. 🌻 Thank you everyone for your valuable input!

💐 10 YEAR SERVICE AWARDS 💐 Congratulations to two of our Wollondilly superstars who have each spent an impressive 10 years at Council serving the local community, and were recognised by CEO Ben Taylor at this week's All Staff meeting. ⭐ Emma McMahon, our Senior Building Surveyor ⭐ Karen Hainsworth, PA to the Director Shire Futures Thank you both for all your hard work over the past decade!

🎓 In a massive week for openings in Wollondilly, the Old Menangle School site is now open! On Thursday afternoon, the community was invited along to try out the new playground facilities and have a look at the amazing rejuvenated Old Menangle School building. It was great to see some of the former students of the old school there to celebrate the occasion. The multi-use space is set to become a destination park for families to visit, stay and play for the day. It is located very near to the train station in Menangle so easy to access. The site includes a playground and nature play areas, a community outdoor kitchen, BBQ and shelter facilities, amenities and of course, the must see upgraded old school building. Funding for the project has been provided by Public Space Legacy Program, NSW Government, Mirvac VPA, Camden AGL Community Legacy Program and Council’s Building Renewal Funds and Contributions. Thank you to all the staff involved, including Senior Project Manager Robert Smith and the Projects team, along with the Parks and Recreation team and Council's contractors who have helped make this such an amazing space for the community.

🚲 Wollondilly residents can now walk or cycle between the towns of Picton and Tahmoor with the completion of a new shareway, which was officially opened on 1 August. 👣 The new shareway will deliver the 2.4km missing pedestrian link between the two town centres and drastically increase pedestrian safety by providing a safe path, offset from the road’s edge. It also encourages a healthier lifestyle option for those wanting to cycle or walk for exercise. 👏 Thank you to Andrew Poore Mitchell Keats and the team for making this much anticipated shareway a reality! It was great to celebrate this positive community outcome with you.
