Good news! We’re getting the jump on our long-term project to extend the new seawall at North Beach. Over the next four weeks, we’ll start preliminary work on Stage 2 of the North Beach Seawall by installing screw piles into the sand between the North Beach Bathers Pavilion and the North Wollongong Surf Club. The piles will be the foundation for the new seawall and tell us how far below sand the bedrock is. This information is invaluable as we finalise the design of the next stage of the seawall that’s planned for construction in 2026. Climate Change The potential impacts of climate change and sea level rise require us to plan for and manage our existing coastal communities, consider the impacts of flooding on new development, and propose mitigation and adaption measures for anticipated risk.
