Spreading the message on the crucial importance of ammonia - now and into the future - saw Yara Pilbara play a key role in the Energy Club WA July Industry Dinner. Our General Manager Laurent Trost provided the keynote address to the 300-strong audience using it to highlight how Yara Pilbara's ammonia helps feed the world through fertiliser production, as well as unlocking resource wealth through the production of ammonium nitrate. A panel discussion lead by Yara Legal and Commercial Manager Natalie Drew saw Laurent join respected WA legislator Peter Tinley MLA and fellow industry representatives Mussaret Nagree of Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy and Fertilisers; and Joe Ariyaratnam of Mitsui E&P Australia for a wide ranging discussion. The focus of the panelists and audience questions was on the future role for ammonia in Australia's (and the world's) decarbonisation efforts, plus the challenges industry and government face as part of the journey.

This morning our Perth and Karratha based teams received representatives from the Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation (MAC) for our NAIDOC week celebration. MAC is made up of members from five traditional custodial groups: the Ngarluma, Mardudhunera, Yaburara, Yindjibarndi, and Wong-Goo-Tt-Oo peoples. MAC’s mission is to preserve and protect the land, heritage and culture while transforming the lives of our community. MAC brings together the five groups to pave the way for future generations and work together for country, while respecting lore, heritage and traditions. National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.     Linking in with the Perth office and streaming the Welcome to Country as performed by MAC Ranger and traditional custodian representative Sarah Hicks followed by a summary of what NAIDOC week means to Peter Cooper (Ranger and Traditional Custodian representative). Peter explained that respecting cultures is about sharing, listening and appreciating differences together.    The short but meaningful celebration together as Yara Pilbara Employees and MAC Employees was followed by light refreshments and some socializing and story telling. Thanks MAC & Team for your time and participation! #NAIDOC2024 #YaraPilbara

Piloting green ammonia, planning for CCUS and making relations with traditional owners a priority, Yara Pilbara is making headway in Pilbara, Western Australia. Ambassador Anne Grete Riise said it was a true honour to visit the Norwegian Yara Plant and the Yuri project where Yara cooperates with a French and a Japanese company, together with Ambassador of France, Mr. Pierre-Andre Imbert 🔋 Project Yuri and Green Ammonia: The Yuri Renewable Hydrogen to Ammonia Project in collaboration with ENGIE and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. will deploy a 10 MW electrolyser powered by 18 MW of solar PV and supported by an 8 MW battery energy storage system. This will generate renewable hydrogen to produce renewable ammonia at Yara Pilbara Fertilisers’ neighbouring ammonia plant in Karratha, Western Australia. Upon completion, the first phase of the Yuri project could produce up to 640 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year as a zero-carbon feedstock for Yara’s ammonia production facility in Karratha. 🌍 Plans on CCS: Yara Pilbara has also signed memorandums of understanding with two major gas producers (Woodside Energy and Santos Ltd) for the undersea storage of carbon emissions from the Norwegian company’s Pilbara plant. The current options are the depleted Angel or Reindeer gas fields and Yara Pilbara general manager Laurent Trost said carbon capture and storage (CCS) could cut emissions from the ammonia plant by 75 per cent. We are excited about the potential these initiatives hold for a greener, more sustainable world. 🤝 Cooperation with Traditional Owners: Yara Pilbara has also been instrumental in signing a Letter of Intent for Strategic Agreement Making (SAM) which will provide a framework for Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation, Industry and Government in relation to matters regarding Murujuga Country.
