About

I am a Clinical Psychologist and founder of Cygnet Clinic, a psychological and psychiatric private practice in Western Australia, and have a special interest in teaching in the areas of Addiction, Autism Spectrum Disorder and PTSD. I hold a Masters Degree in Clinical & Health Psychology, and a PhD investigating perceptual disturbances in individuals with PtSD.

I have several additional roles, including my appointment as Adjunct Associate Professor for the Clinical Masters/PhD program for the last decade (commenced 2014), AFL Consultant Psychologist and Expert Advisory Committee Member at St John's Ambulance. I am a Fellow of the APS College of Clinical Psychology and the current West Australian APS Clinical College Executive Committee in the role of Treasurer. I am also involved in medico-legal assessments and reports and am a member of The Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law (ANZAPPL).

Cygnet Clinic has worked with other organisations such as HeadSpace (Midland & Fremantle), Curtin University, St John Ambulance, WA Police, and AFL to provide clinical services and assist with program development & organisational reforms as well as supervision to staff.

I have a background in disability services, working first as a support worker for Activ Foundation in Western Australia from 1995-2000 & Acting Support Co-ordinator in 1998. I have continued my interest in supporting people with disabilities by co-founding an Adult Service (Spectrum Clinic) for Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and am an affiliate member of Curtin Autism Research Group (CARG). I have accredited training in ADOS-2 (Modules 1 to 4) from La Trobe University. I have also been trained with the 3Di as part of a comprehensive Autism Assessment.

This thesis was concerned with investigating a visual-illusionary phenomenon that co-occurs with post-traumatic anxiety symptoms. More specifically, individuals who report recurring specific memories of a fearful event (RSM) also tend to report a persistent illusion of movement (PIM) upon prolonged visual fixation. The development of a visual test (i-Test) designed to reliably elicit PIM has enabled research to be conducted on the nature and correlates of this type of visual disturbance.

ARBOR Counselling is held at various locations. Initial sessions can be held at client’s homes. ARBOR’s grief counsellors are professionals with tertiary qualifications. They can provide professional support and strategies for managing grief. ARBOR also offers support groups around the metro area. Clients may be referred to other Anglicare WA services. Counselling sessions are an hour long and can be one-on-one or involve multiple clients.

ARBOR peer supporters are volunteers who have experienced bereavement by suicide and wish to help others through similar situations. Statistically, people who have experienced the suicide of a loved one are more likely to suffer from depression, anxiety, and other mental health complications. Suicide is not a singular tragedy, it has multiple consequences..

Entries were considered based on creativity and inventiveness as indicated in their 100-word application and accompanying photo or video.

Stafford Hamilton, CEO of Credabl, reflected: “We’re humbled by the applications received. From those that shared stories of how their business has suffered financial hardship, to those with a desire to educate and care for their local communities, and those seeking to reward their staff who have dedicated themselves to the practices. It was incredibly difficult to limit the Grants to only five recipients. Congratulations to all winners. We look forward to sharing the stories of these deserving winners with the broader community in coming months.”
