I believe it's time to retire SMART goals. While they were effective when George Doran, Arthur Miller, and James Cunningham introduced them in 1981, the complexity of today's challenges calls for a new approach. This is where the PACT framework comes into play. PACT stands for Purposeful, Actionable, Continuous, and Trackable. By focusing on these elements, we ensure that our goals are not only aligned with our broader purpose but also adaptable to change and committed to ongoing improvement. This continuous improvement aspect of the PACT framework should make us feel optimistic about our potential for growth. This framework provides a more dynamic and effective way to set goals that are both challenging and achievable.

One practical approach we used was to come together once a month for a team meeting and lunch, even though we worked at different locations. Each time, we prepared a meal featuring a specific country's cuisine. These gatherings were enjoyable and an excellent way to celebrate our diversity. I have fond memories of learning so much during our Mexico-themed lunch! These shared experiences helped us appreciate each other's diverse communication styles and nurtured a sense of unity.

In my experience, actions speak louder than words. I've always believed in walking the talk when it comes to empathy. If you're not in a team that values empathy first, it might be a sign that you need to move to be in the right place. It's crucial to use your energy and enthusiasm where they are genuinely appreciated. Building trust takes time and can be easily lost, so consider yourself a patient gardener who nurtures what blooms. And remember, be prepared for the unexpected—it's part of the growth process.

Taking the time to get the process right is a great start. Positive energy, contagious excitement, and enthusiasm have always been key to success. It's important to see new opportunities everywhere. Recently, I was invited to write some Google Reviews, which turned out to be a wonderful opportunity to share our collaborative story and how our paths crossed because we care about the same thing—sustainable living. This initiative generated new interest and new voices, strengthening our mutually aligned goals. By articulating and sharing your vision effectively, you can inspire your team and community to work towards a sustainable future together.

No one achieves success on their own; we are social beings and thrive in the company of others. Collaboration is a powerful tool for sustaining creativity. Working with others can expose you to different perspectives and ideas you might have yet to consider. Could you collaborate with colleagues from various departments or even with professionals from other industries?
