Are you a business owner? If so, you're my kind of person. I appreciate and admire the courage, tenacity and willingness to take risks that define most people who run their own businesses. I've worked with business owners for the past 23 years, helping them craft a strategic approach to making their business more prosperous, and to help them enjoy being a business owner.

In January 2001, we opened our doors with one client, a single second-hand computer on a second-hand desk in the corner of our living room. Within months, we had grown to a point where Nicole joined the party, and since then we've helped over five hundred clients across a wide range of industries.

Inevitably, when you work on strategic marketing plans - which was our initial focus - you begin to be exposed to other parts of the business of your clients - such as finance, sales, customer service, quality control and much more.

Over time, our services morphed into a broader and deeper offering including an in-house bespoke lead generation division.

Around 2014 when we completely pivoted our business model and created a second business - Silver & Wise - that we expanded into business strategy, and our advisors helped thousands of aspiring business owners in the mature demographic as well as advocating for an end to ageism.

With a survey of more than 10000 business owners and growing, we draw on our experience and this feedback using our 8 Rooms Model to help business owners be better at what they do. We differ from traditional business consulting in that we're focused on the owner and helping them work ON the business rather than being stuck in the day-to-day.

In summary, the 8 Rooms are:

Strategy and Leadership - set goals, plan a business strategy and inspire others to join you on the journey.
Marketing & PR - understand your market, competitors and customers so you can attract and retain more customers.
Sales - be in front of the right customer, have the right systems to plan sales activity and convert leads
Money - price your goods and services profitably and handle the flow of money in your business, so you have good cashflow
People - onboard and manage your team to ensure they can execute your plans - staff, suppliers and stakeholders
Quality - get quality right for your product and market
Service - schedule production and service your customers
Adapting - know when change is coming.

Typically business owners come to us to get better at running their business and to realign their business to life.

    I was fortunate to be able to co-ordinate the donations to Fred Hollows of one of my clients - bioRevive - and also co-ordinate the engagement of biorevive team members with the foundation - with them attending events, and four of the younger team members participating in the Melbourne Coastrek.

    I personally used to call on Fred when I was a hospital sales representative with Merck, and I loved his style even then - gruff, uncompromising and a heart of gold wanting to bring sight back…

I worked on certain aspects of the Great Scrap Roundup from my role in the rural team. The program was created by Lige and it was an honour to play a small part in some of the programs associated with it. The program ended up resulting in more than $1m in donations to the CFA and it was a remarkably successful program in returning old steel to…

    After having run Blue Frog for about 6 months on my own, we had enough business for Nicole to join full time and one of our first projects we worked on together was taking over and then managing the Smith & Nephew woundcare business from a friend who was closing his consultancy. We worked on various products in this category for a couple of years - mostly in the pharmacy channel. It was our first professional pharmaceutical client after starting the business and it was a great experience in marketing communications - We created a fantastic wound care flip chart for them at the time which was loved by pharmacy as it contained descriptions of every product and a real 3d sample on each page.

    Our second big client was Biorevive - a business owned by Will Crothers. I was engaged to research the potential markets for a new amino acid Hangover Preventative. Eventually chose pharmacy as the right channel for launch and then worked with Stuart Berrybrown - one of the best salespeople in the industry to take ALCODOL to the 3rd largest natural product launched in pharmacy that year. Also helped launch ORUL - an amino acid for mouth ulcers, but it will be the launch of ALCODOL and the fun…

    Our second big client was Biorevive - a business owned by Will Crothers. I was engaged to research the potential markets for a new amino acid Hangover Preventative. Eventually chose pharmacy as the right channel for launch and then worked with Stuart Berrybrown - one of the best salespeople in the industry to take ALCODOL to the 3rd largest natural product launched in pharmacy that year. Also helped launch ORUL - an amino acid for mouth ulcers, but it will be the launch of ALCODOL and the fun around sponsoring the world's longest lunch, getting national news airtime and establishing a strong sales and marketing team that I will remember most from this project
