Something interesting happened at the Primary Care Conference in Canberra today. The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) President Dr Nicole Higgins MBBS FRACGP GAICD put forward an optimistic view of General Practitioners in Australia. It was a definitive shift in gears for the RACGP and its messaging. Some clear messages were made including: ◇General Practice is not in crisis ◇50% of GPs are now women ◇61% of registrars are women ◇Training numbers are increasing Challenges include: ◇Over 50% of GPs in Australia were trained overseas ◇Overseas-trained GPs are doing a lot of heavy lifting. They work on average 0.9FTE while Aus-trained GPs on average work 0.6FTE Funding, change management and trust were also on the agenda - you can see pics of some of the slides attached. I look forward to seeing more when the Health of the Nation report is released. #health #healthcare #primaryhealthcare #generalpractice #generalpractitioners Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA)

Great news for healthcare access in Australia! The Australian College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) applauds the government's move to remove the requirement for mandatory Collaborative Arrangements for Nurse Practitioners and midwives. This is a big win for: Patients: Easier access to essential healthcare services, especially in rural and remote areas. Nurse Practitioners & midwives: Greater autonomy to serve their communities, particularly in Indigenous healthcare settings. Huge thanks to the government and supporters! The ACNP looks forward to working with all healthcare professionals to improve access to high-quality care for all Australians. https://lnkd.in/dbTpsW_d #healthcare #nursepractitioner #ruralhealthcare #collaboration #bettercare
