🌟 Beyond song and dance, the Caribbean's cultural & creative industries (CCI) are a powerhouse of potential! In 2022, global exports of creative services hit a record USD 1.4 trillion, almost double the USD 713 billion of exports of creative goods. Yet, lack of comprehensive data means we may not fully understand the true value of the sector. #ICYMI at the Caribbean Development Bank's recent Annual Meeting, experts at our forum "Imagineering: Using Creative Industry Research to Devise Development Strategies" highlighted how inadequate data collection is hampering the true impact of the CCI. Panel members highlighted the following to ensure sustainable CCI growth in the Region: 🔷 Measuring, mapping and defining the Caribbean cultural economy are critical to adequately plan for its development. 🔷 Protecting intellectual rights is necessary to incentivise creators to create and to produce content that is valued in society. A high-level CDB team toured the hardest-hit areas of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, witnessing firsthand the devastating impact of #HurricaneBeryl. The scenes of destruction are a stark reminder of the highly disruptive power of natural disasters and the long, arduous journey of recovery that lies ahead. These images capture the heartbreaking impact on homes, schools, and critical infrastructure, illustrating the harsh reality faced by communities on the frontlines of climate change. The extent of the damage is a testament to the urgent need for resilient rebuilding efforts and highlights the vulnerability of our Caribbean nations to the effects of #climatechange. View album🔗 https://lnkd.in/emCpn4Ka CDB is committed to supporting their recovery and will continue to advocate for stronger climate resilience measures. The fight against climate change is a global challenge, but its impacts are deeply personal and immediate for those on the frontlines. #DisasterRelief #FromTheFrontlines #RebuildingResilience #CaribbeanStrong

This week, our team spent time on the ground in St. Vincent and the Grenadines 🇻🇨, listening to the personal stories of those impacted by #HurricaneBeryl. We're paying special attention to the voices of vulnerable groups, so we can better understand their immediate and long-term needs. Canouan Government School's Principal, Ms. Kerry Kidd-Rhynd tells CDB's Acting President, Mr. Isaac Solomon that even though part of the school's roof was damaged in the hurricane, it is still serving as a shelter for many persons who lost their homes. CDB's Social Analyst, Kemberley Gittens listens as residents of Mayreau, Ms. Isalyn Forde and her daughter Ms. Anicia Lewis shared their traumatic experience, noting that they are grateful to have survived but fear future hurricanes. Fellow resident, Mr. Oswald Harry spoke about his and others’ narrow escape when the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception, where they were sheltering, was destroyed by the hurricane. It's these personal connections that drive our commitment to rebuilding stronger, more resilient communities. 🔗https://ow.ly/7JBh50SyaOS #DisasterRelief #PeopleFirst #CaribbeanStrong
