IID has successfully completed the final data collection for the ELANA initiative, marking a milestone in assessing early childhood education across Bangladesh. Following 3 field trials, this final data collection involved our dedicated team of 60 volunteers reaching 3,600 households across three districts—Jashore, Jhenaidah, and Magura—gathering data on the linguistic and numeracy skills of 3,663 children aged 4–10 using the tablet-based ELANA app. The ELANA initiative is a step forward in understanding and improving early childhood education in the Global South. By providing detailed data on early learning outcomes, ELANA will enable educators and policymakers to make informed decisions that enhance the educational experiences of children. As we align with SDG 4.2.1 and SDG 4.1.1(a), we hope that ELANA will pave the way for new insights into early childhood learning. IID conducted this initiative as part of a global team, collaborating with the PAL Network, ASER, and the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), among others.

Exciting Update from Bogura! As part of IID's education initiative, e!quality, aimed at strengthening community-based organizations (CBOs) in Bangladesh, a 2-day training workshop has been kicked off for the female teachers of Swapnapooran School! This training will empower 22 female teachers with essential skills in gender equality, social inclusion, child safeguarding, and modern teaching methods. Through this capacity-building initiative, about 1,200 underprivileged children across 18 branches of Swapnapooran School, situated in the remote areas of Bogura, will benefit. IID shared key insights from the GPE-KIX-supported ‘Early Language & Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (PAL-ELANA)’ initiative at the KIX Bangladesh National Uptake Forum 2024. Kazi Ferdous Pavel, Head of Education at IID, presented on addressing learning poverty and educational disparities through digitally adaptive assessment tools. Key components include digital tools for assessment, citizen-led initiatives for local engagement, and capacity-building for educators and community members.
