Transforming combustion CO2 emissions is a priority for the European #cement industry, which has successfully integrated 53% #alternativefuels into our fuel mix as of 2021. The CO2Valorize project substitutes limestone with supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) derived from carbonated waste materials like mine tailings and recycled concrete. 🏗️ This innovative approach aims to not only use captured CO2 in the carbonation process of #SCMs but also to drastically cut CO2 emissions by 50% per ton of produced #cement. IFESTOS project, supported by the EU Innovation Fund, is a #carboncapture initiative at Kamari plant in Greece. It will play a pivotal role in decarbonising #cement manufacturing and supplying innovative green building materials to meet the rising demand for sustainable construction. The European #cement industry leads in efficiency, operating within 70-80% thermal efficiency. But, there's room for even greater gains! By transforming preheater kilns into precalciner kilns and utilising residual heat from coolers for electricity, we can push the boundaries further. 💡 Our ongoing investments in energy efficiency not only maintain our competitiveness but also reduce our environmental footprint.
