Expertise & certification on circular packaging

About us

CIRCPACK is the compass for recycling of packaging around the globe. We support brand owners and packaging companies to understand, assess and improve the recyclability of their packaging. This is all accomplished via operational tests and advice, certifications which back up your packaging's performance, and a wealth of knowledge supporting these topics more broadly. This takes the form of our freely available design for recycling guidelines, targeted masterclasses, recycling intelligence reports, and our ReCoRe platform, which provides a granular overview of recycling and legislation systems in 71 countries. Of course, being part of the Veolia group provides international presence and access to local knowledge & operational industrial facilities. Veolia itself is a significant player in water, waste and energy management and has a presence in 50 countries with 210,000+ employees. We're committed to driving a sustainable future and we're here to assist you on this journey. Contact us at [email protected] to explore our services.

❗ An important design for recycling criteria for glass packaging is to only use soda lime glass as the type of glass for the packaging in question❗ This is because the physical properties of other types of glass are not suitable for the process of manufacturing glass packaging 🤔 Generally, reprocessors are equipped to reprocess soda lime glass as the standard in their facilities. This is because different types of glass have different melting temperatures, which has an impact on how they are reprocessed. 💡 Some types of glass will remain solid when the soda lime glass is melted at the recycler's pre-set process temperatures. This contributes to defects being present in the reprocessed glass product. Such that the glass product will contain visible defects for instance solid elements of the other types of glass. Mechanical issues result in an increase in brittleness of the reprocessed glass due to mixing different types of glass. This reduces the protective strength of the packaging 🧠 ♻ #designforrecycling #glasspackaging #packagingdesign

The recycling of packaging does not only include the reprocessing step but it is essential that the materials are collected, that they are sorted in their dedicated material stream, that they are not causing any issues during the reprocessing step and that there is an application for the recycled material💡 ♻ Focusing on the sorting part of packaging waste, do you think that there is a step that is most important for efficient sorting?

Ontario Declines Deposit-Return Scheme for Non-Alcoholic Drink Containers In Ontario, the provincial government has decided against implementing a deposit-return scheme for non-alcoholic beverage containers, such as pop cans and bottled water, naming high implementation costs as the main concern 🤔 This decision comes in the face of strong advocacy from environmental groups, who argue that such a scheme would significantly improve recycling rates and reduce landfill waste. Recycling operations will continue under the existing blue box system ♻ This decision follows the disbandment of a working group previously established to explore the feasibility of the deposit-return scheme. What do you think about this decision? #canada #drs #news

Starting next year, Nigeria will enforce a nationwide ban on single-use plastics ❗ 💡 This initiative begins with immediate prohibitions within government offices, establishing a robust precedent for forthcoming national policy changes. The decision builds on the national policy on plastic waste management adopted in 2020, which targets the elimination of specific plastic types by 2025. Items such as straws and water sachets are prioritised, addressing the most prevalent pollutants. As one of the world's foremost plastic polluters, generating over 2.5 million tonnes of waste annually, Nigeria's move could substantially alter the environmental landscape and catalyse global action 🤯 This is particularly critical in urban areas like Lagos, which contend with escalating waste challenges. This initiative could well pave the path to a cleaner, sustainable future. Furthermore, the government is advancing a new plastic policy aimed at a phased elimination of plastic waste, encouraging producers to switch to alternatives and tightening regulations on imports 💭 #packaging #waste #singleuseplastic #packaginglaw #legislation What are your thoughts on Nigeria’s proactive measures? Could this inspire other nations to follow suit?

In discussions about sustainable waste management, it's essential to understand the distinction between waste recovery and recycling. Both play vital roles in the circular and sustainable economy, but they are not the same 💡 ♻ Waste Recovery vs. Recycling: Waste Recovery encompasses a broader set of processes aimed at extracting value from waste. This includes: ▫ Energy Recovery: Converting waste into usable energy through methods like incineration. ▫ Material Recovery: Using waste to create new materials, which can include recycling but also other forms of reprocessing. Recycling is a specific type of material recovery that transforms waste items directly back into similar products. When you read that a certain percentage of waste is "recovered," it doesn't necessarily mean all of it is recycled. Recovery includes recycling but also accounts for other forms of valorisation like energy creation or repurposing waste into different forms 🧐 #recycling #wasterecovery #facts #circulareconomy

Designing packaging for recycling is a necessity in light of current and upcoming legislation (PPWR). At CIRCPACK, we can assist you in this endeavour 💡 ♻ Our services range from consultancy and market overview to sorting tests conducted in one of Veolia's operational sorting facilities, as well as laboratory tests to obtain recycling certification ⚗ Regarding laboratory tests, we are a recognized laboratory for all RecyClass Quick Test Procedures and an accredited lab for European PET Bottle Platform (EPBP)'s QT500-508. 🧠 These tests simulate the conditions of industrial reprocessing facilities on a smaller scale. Additionally, we can perform washing tests to determine the impact of film and/or paper labels and bleeding inks on PP and PE packaging (rigid and flexible), and assess potential fibre loss from paper labels. Furthermore, we are capable of conducting glue removal tests to evaluate the separation of adhesives and labels. 💡 If you would like to learn more about our laboratory testing capabilities, please refer to the link below or contact us directly.
