Great discussion with the newly elected Chair of the European Parliament's Transport Committee! ⚓ Today, ECSA's Sotiris Raptis, Katalin Dobránszky-Bartus, PhD and Fanny Lossy met with the Chair of the Transport Committee Eliza Vozemberg at the European Parliament. The meeting was a great opportunity to exchange views on the priorities of European shipping for the next 5 years and to discuss the strategic role of shipping to European security. Thank you Eric Priante Martin for the good discussion in the TradeWinds Green Seas podcast on the new priorities of the re-elected EU Commission President von der Leyen and the newly announced Clean Industrial Deal. We touched upon the enormous investments necessary in Europe for the energy transition, European shipping's contribution to Europe's energy and supply chain security and the need to stay internationally competitive in a period of geopolitical uncertainty.

The European Transport Workers Federation (ETF) and the European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA), the European social partners for maritime transport, launched today the ‘Seafarers Go Digital’ initiative. The initiative, with a view of preparing seafarers for the digital challenges, seeks to address the impact of digitalization on the Maritime Transport Industry. It acknowledges the importance of protecting seafarers’ employment rights and wellbeing, while promoting a fair and inclusive digital transition for everyone. The Seafarers Go Digital initiative was officially launched today! ⚓ This joint initiative of European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA) & European Transport Workers' Federation, aims to support shipping and seafarers in the digital transition. Main points from today's event ⤵ 📍 Need to support the uptake of digital technologies while safeguarding employment rights and well-being of seafarers 📍 Timely revision of international regulations, such as STCW to ensure that training programmes are up to date 📍 Raise awareness and address the challenges of digitalisation for shipping and seafarers Among the topics we discussed: onboard digitalisation, e-certificates and digital upskilling/reskilling.
