European Biogas Association

Renewable Energy Semiconductor Manufacturing

The European Biogas Association is the leading European non-governmental organisation promoting renewable gas in Europe.

About us

European Biogas Association (EBA) was founded in February 2009 as a Belgian non-profit organisation aiming to promote the deployment of sustainable biogas production and use in Europe. This covers all energetic applications of biogas like heat, electricity and automotive fuel. EBA’s membership comprises national biogas associations, institutes and companies from over 20 countries all across Europe. The member associations cover the majority of producers, companies, consultants and researchers in the field of biogas within Europe. EBA’s strategy defines three priorities: establish biogas as an important part of Europe’s energy mix, promote source separation of household waste to increase the gas potential and support the production of biomethane as vehicle fuel.

With new faces stepping in post-EU elections, it is crucial to introduce the biogas sector and its key role in realising a vision for a greener and more sustainable Europe. 🌱 What is biogas? It is a renewable energy source produced from organic matter such as household and industrial waste, sewage sludge, urban wastewater, and manure. This process supports the shift to circularity by turning waste into valuable energy, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. Biogas can provide renewable heat and power as well as green fuel. The residues from biogas production also offer significant benefits: bio-CO2 can be reused in various industries, and the nutrient-rich matter left behind in the digester is ideal for organic farming, completing the cycle of organic waste use. 🎥 Watch our video to find out more. #biogas #biomethane #sustainable

  • 📍 This summer, the EBA team visited several biogas plants across Belgium. The first stop? The Digrom Energy biogas plant, operated by BiogasTec NV. BiogasTec manages six of its own biogas installations, with a total green electricity production capacity of 26 MW—enough to power approximately 50,000 households. The Digrom Energy plant is located in Ardooie, Belgium, with an input capacity of 89,000 tonnes per year of vegetable biodegradable and organic waste. ♻️ It generates 26,300 MWh of green electricity (enough to power 7,950 families per year) along with 28,600 MWh of green heat, 15,400 tonnes of soil improver, and 27,500 tonnes of effluent water. A special thanks to Wouter Platteau, CEO and owner of BiogasTec, for a very informative visit. Stay tuned to discover which other plants the EBA team has visited! #biogas #sustainability
