Two months ago on this day, we unveiled the key contribution of #LNG terminals to: ✅ maintaining #EnergySecurity in Europe ✅ fostering the gradual #decarbonisation of energy supplies on our continent. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/df2ERrn3 How? 🔹 The share of LNG in total EU gas imports more than doubled between 2022 and 2023, increasing from 20% to 42%. 🔹 This contributed to rebalancing the significant reduction in natural gas supplies from Russia after February 2022. 🔸 The increase in the EU’s regasification capacity (currently represented by 30 operational large-scale onshore and offshore import terminals) will be also supporting the supply of renewable and low-carbon molecules to Europe. 🔸 Terminals can accommodate bio-LNG and synthetic LNG, enabling high GHG emission reductions with minimal adaptation costs, as well as handling hydrogen derivatives, liquefied hydrogen, and captured CO2. It was an honour to be part of the exchange between the representatives of our industry and the Cabinet of the European Commissioner for Energy. Our shared vision can only be realised through close cooperation between European policymakers and energy infrastructure operators. A massive thanks to the members of our organisation, to the Gas LNG Europe President Luis Ignacio PARADA and to the GIE team for making this possible.

▶ Watch how European terminal operators can contribute to fostering the security of energy supplies & enhancing decarbonisation in the EU. Listen to Luis Ignacio PARADA, President of Gas LNG Europe (GLE), outlining the essential elements to advance the sustainable energy transition. GLE study's policy recommendations: https://lnkd.in/g9AXbUj9 ✅ Recognise terminal operators' diverse services, such as #renewable and low-carbon energy import, #CCUS, and carbon handling. ✅ Tailor policies to overcome coordination challenges and support the industry's growth. ✅ Minimize administrative costs and harmonise standards to accelerate development and facilitate less mature technologies. ✅ Facilitate international coordination, standardisation, and certification schemes for maritime imports of renewable and low-carbon energy. ✅ Ensure downstream market transitions align with regional transition plans, enabling terminals and markets to progress together, and avoid narrow policy focuses to prevent delays in efficiency gains. 🤝 Fostering collaboration: We must work together. For Europe to successfully deliver climate objectives while overcoming supply chain disruptions, the European Commission, regulators, industry, and European port authorities must communicate and collaborate. The 𝗙𝗟𝗡𝗚 & 𝗙𝗦𝗥𝗨 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 returns in-person to Singapore, again, by popular demand, this 12-15 November 2024! 🚢 As the world shifts focus on net-zero carbon and in search of cleaner energy sources, the demand for LNG has increased globally. 🔸 Growth in natural gas demand: Natural gas is increasingly seen as a cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuels globally. 🔸 Floating solutions for remote fields: FLNG facilities are attractive for developing natural gas reserves in remote locations where building pipelines is impractical or uneconomical 🔸 Ensuring new projects: leaders are going to alternatives to ensure new LNG projects by attracting new buyers/investors and conversions of old vessels. The market expects EPC awards worth $15 billion, with new projects set to supply 3 million tons of LNG annually. Faced with limited shipyard supply and emphasis on net-zero carbon regulations, LNG Professionals are now seeking solutions to identify the appropriate technologies and tools to ensure they can increase FLNG and FSRU production to match the rising demand for LNG. This presents the perfect opportunity for you to be right in front of potential businesses in the LNG market. 📩 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗽 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆: https://lnkd.in/d94eixfG 💻 𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙩: https://lnkd.in/gAEXt8sC 📩 𝘼𝙣𝙮 𝙚𝙣𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨? From 9 TWh to 45 TWh: Urgent policy intervention is needed for #UndergroundHydrogenStorage (UHS) to Achieve EU climate goals! Read the full article on Euractiv 👉 https://lnkd.in/gz2G2uSB A recent study by Artelys and Frontier Economics, published in April 2024, revealed that achieving the 2030 ambitions set by REPowerEU cost-effectively will require a significant increase in UHS capacity, reaching 45 TWh. Key Insights: 🔹 Holistic EU System Planning: An integrated approach is crucial to unlock the full potential of the synergies between molecules and electrons, enabling a cohesive energy strategy. 🔹 Capacity Needs: Europe's underground hydrogen storage capacity needs to reach 45 TWh by 2030 to meet REPowerEU targets, a substantial increase from the 9 TWh currently planned. 🔹 Economic Benefits: Investing in and delivering this additional UHS capacity would yield a significant net economic benefit of €2.5 billion per year, totaling over €30 billion across 20 years. 🔹 Policy Support: Policymakers must create favorable conditions for the market to deliver necessary investments and provide EU support to overcome initial barriers in the nascent hydrogen market. #Flexibility and #Efficiency in the #EnergySystem: 🔺 UHS plays a pivotal role in providing flexibility in an energy system increasingly powered by variable renewable electricity. 🔺 The hydrogen sector, particularly UHS, offers a complementary strategy to electrification and helping industrial stakeholders achieve decarbonization and energy autonomy. Strategic Recommendations: ✅ Develop a dedicated EU hydrogen storage strategy immediately, avoiding silo-thinking and promoting interconnected systems. ✅ Build on synergies across sectors, including molecules and electrons, to ensure a competitive, resilient, and climate-neutral economy in Europe. ✅ De-risk vital investment for expanding the UHS industry at the EU level. Join the Conversation: We invite you to join us at the GIE Annual Conference on 17-18 October in Munich, Germany, to further discuss this key policy topic with over 300 energy experts. 🔰https://lnkd.in/ebJm8VMf Charlotte Roule 夏澜 Doug Waters Christopher Andrey Catherine Galano (L’Hostis) #RenewableEnergy #HydrogenStorage #EnergyTransition #EU2030 #SustainableFuture #GIEAC24
