Germany has awarded a tender to buy at least 259,000 metric tons of green ammonia between 2027 and 2033, initiating a series of international tenders to import renewable and low-carbon hydrogen derivatives essential for decarbonization. Last week, #ThyssenKrupp released the RFP documents in its call for tenders for the supply of H2 to its DRI plant in Duisburg, Germany. This call represents the second step in a three-step procurement process expected to end in Q4/2024. Understanding and bidding for such a tender involves complex criteria and rigorous requirements. The Netherlands is establishing strong partnerships with Latin American countries, recognizing their potential in the #hydrogen economy. Dutch stakeholders and ports, like the Port of Rotterdam, are actively involved in developing export corridors for hydrogen produced in the region. #Chile and #Uruguay are leading the way in renewable hydrogen production, with numerous Power-to-X projects in development. This presents a significant opportunity for Latin America to become a major exporter of hydrogen carriers, contributing to global decarbonization efforts. This study analyzes the key requirements of the EU Regulation for RFNBO's and its local applicability in Chile and Uruguay, economies that aim to export RFNBO-compliant molecules to The Netherlands and other EU Member States. It translates EU definitions into local context and raises challenges to facilitate future trade between export and import jurisdictions.
