🌟The first week of July has been a dynamic and enlightening time for MARCOGAZ, with active participation in several key conferences and meetings. Here's a brief overview of some highlights of the week: 🔋 Global Energy Transition Congress and Exhibition. We kicked off the week with a thrilling 3-day conference in the beautiful city of Milan. MARCOGAZ had the opportunity to exchange ideas with various stakeholders, international energy ministers, and CEOs from across the energy value chain and carbon-intensive industries. This community of experts shared tangible, scalable, and pragmatic approaches to accelerating the energy transition. 🌍⚡ 🔍 The Carbon Capture and Storage Association EU Conference featured insightful panels with speakers from industry and EU Institutions. The discussions focused on the role of CCUS in the future of European industry and CO2 transport infrastructure. MARCOGAZ engaged in fruitful exchanges on low-carbon products, Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) technologies, and their contribution to sustainability. The importance of cross-border cooperation to develop a European CO2 market was also highlighted. 🤝💡 💬 Annual National Gas Associations Platform Meeting. Organised by Eurogas, this meeting brought together national perspectives with representatives from the European Commission. Key discussions centred around the priorities and challenges in the gas sector, the energy transition, and the integration of renewable and low-carbon gases into the existing gas infrastructure and system. 🚀🔧 🔄 Eurogas Annual Renewable Gas Conference (Brussels), themed 'Renewable gaseous energy: Where is the demand?', where MARCOGAZ was able to explore how to align regulation and market demand towards climate positivity. The conference featured insightful presentations on the biomethane and hydrogen potential in the spirit industry and the future of imported hydrogen. 🌱🔋 🌍These events provided invaluable opportunities for MARCOGAZ to contribute to and learn from the collective efforts driving the energy transition. 👐🏻MARCOGAZ is happy to unveil its latest publication, the "Report on European Gas Safety Gas Distribution (EGAS B)"! 🦺This report highlights the robust safety measures and meticulous data collection efforts of the gas industry, underscoring its commitment to safety despite the heightened public and media focus on gas-related incidents. 🔍 Key Highlights: 🔹 Historical Data Collection: Since 1995, nine major gas companies and associations began systematically collecting data on gas-related accidents, spearheaded by the European Third Party Safety (ETPS) group. 📜 🔹 Expanded Efforts: In 2005, ETPS joined MARCOGAZ to broaden data collection across more European countries, enhancing our safety communication efforts.🌍  🔹 Focused Accuracy: In 2008, MARCOGAZ refined its approach by splitting ETPS into two groups - EGAS B for gas distribution and EGAS C for gas installations - to improve data accuracy.💡  🔹 Recent Data: The current report covers EGAS B data from 2017 to 2022, with statistical analyses from eight countries. While consistent data from up to 14 countries is available, it's not included for all years. 📶 🔹 New KPIs: MARCOGAZ introduced key performance indicators (KPIs) in 2023, such as average response time to emergency calls and the number of annual third-party interferences or leaks.🔑 ⛑️The conclusions drawn from this report aim to deepen the understanding of statistical findings and the safety performance indicators utilised in the European gas industry. 🕵🏻♂️Explore yet another recent document from MARCOGAZ: the "Introductory Document to the Best Available Techniques to Reduce Methane Emissions from Venting and Flaring Activities in the Mid-downstream Gas Sector". 🌱As part of the European Green Deal and the European Methane Strategy, the European Commission has placed a strong emphasis on reducing methane emissions🌍. Despite advancements in exhaust purification technologies, reducing emissions from petrol and diesel engines remains a complex issue. 💧Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) presents a promising solution for trucks, offering a cleaner alternative to traditional fuels. The Blue Corridors project in Europe is at the forefront of promoting LNG for long-distance transport🚚. To support this initiative, our latest publication highlights the importance of consistent guidelines for LNG refuelling across countries. It also includes a comprehensive comparison of the legal requirements and specifications for LNG fuel tanks in various nations🚛. 🚥MARCOGAZ research underscores the need for standardised training programs for LNG truck drivers to ensure safety and compliance with legal obligations. 📚MARCOGAZ has recently published a total of four documents, the first of them on “Metering technologies for non conventional gases”. 🌍To support the energy transition, the gas industry has initiated demonstration projects with emerging technologies and industrial projects with mature technologies and partial regulation, tailored to the specific needs of different non-conventional gas types.🌱 📃In 2022, MARCOGAZ conducted a survey to gather information on measurement systems for these unconventional gas projects.📶 This survey collected valuable data on project types and measurement technologies, providing a foundation to identify market needs and requirements for using these new gases.🔧 The goal is to make this questionnaire a recurring tool for detecting trends, identifying needs, and fostering new activities among MARCOGAZ experts. 🔆The initial summary of responses has identified two main project categories:  1️⃣ Projects focused on injecting unconventional gases into existing pipelines. 2️⃣ Projects focused on measuring these gases. 🗨️The survey data includes insights into measurement technologies, energy determination methods, regulatory frameworks, and legislation for each project, with some responses representing multiple projects of the same type. 🔮Dive into the future of gas metering technologies and join us in the journey towards a more sustainable and decarbonized Europe! 📖 Read the full publication here: https://lnkd.in/dderPxJQ #Decarbonization #Sustainability #TechnologyInnovation #NonConventionalGases #EnergyTransition

As the Vice-Director of the Swiss Gas and Water Association (SVGW), he leads the gas and district heating sectors, focusing on developing technical knowledge and standards for the decarbonization of the gas sector🏘️. His extensive background includes various positions in the Power Generation Business both in Switzerland and abroad. Alexander, who has been a dedicated member of the MARCOGAZ Board since 2008, assumes this role, succeeding Mr. Liam Nolan, after serving two years as the Vice-President💼. 🇦🇹In Austria, he is head of the Certification Body at the Austrian Association for Gas and Water (ÖVGW), responsible for the certification of products, people, and companies in the gas, water, and electricity sectors, as well as representing European Gas Affairs🌍. Active in the industry for more than 25 years, Alexander SCHWANZER is an experienced strategist with an extensive network and wide-ranging expertise in the gas and water sector⚙️💧.  🔗👐🏻He serves on several Committees and Groups at the ÖVGW, Austrian Standards, CEN, and MARCOGAZ. Alexander SCHWANZER also organised the EGATEC 2015 in Vienna and will be organising the edition of 2026 in the same city🎟️.
