Predictive Approaches for Safer Urban Environments

About us

Cities need new approaches to planning and managing mobility networks that account for the dynamic and rapidly changing nature of urban traffic environments. Central to this is safety—for all types of road users, gender, age and mobility levels. The EU-funded Predictive Approaches for Safer Urban Environment consortium (known as Project PHOEBE) brings together the inter-disciplinary power of traffic simulation, road safety assessment, human behaviour, mode shift and induced demand modelling and mobility data into a harmonised, prospective assessment framework for road safety. The 3.5-year-long PHOEBE project will apply and refine the framework in real-world scenarios across three pilot cities, Athens (GR), Valencia (ES) and West Midlands (UK). The PHOEBE framework will be available to other European cities, which can use it as a blueprint to understand and evaluate the long-term safety, mode choice and socio-economic impacts of changes before they are made. Disclaimer: EU HorizonEurope-funding is received through the grant agreement No. 101076963. UK participants in Horizon Europe Project PHOEBE are supported by UKRI grant numbers 10038897 (The International Road Assessment Programme – iRAP) and 10056912 (The Floow).
