You deserve a break, but the planet does too! This summer, pack your suitcase with circularity in mind🧳♻️ Wherever you go, keep these general considerations in mind and choose the most recyclable plastic products: ✅ White, transparent or natural-coloured items, with sleeves that are easy to remove. Colours and printing cannot be removed during recycling. ✅ Packaging that can be emptied completely. You will make the most of your purchase while reducing impurities during recycling. ✅ Items made of one single type of plastic. Monomaterial items allow for optimal sorting and recycling, as there is no need to separate different types of plastic at the recycling plant. ✅ Keep an eye open for greenwashing. Check for factual, detailed claims that include coherent information about the recyclability of the item or the percentage of recycled plastics used. PET tray recycling is evolving ♻️ The estimated recycling capacity was 50,000 tonnes in 2022 and is expected to reach over 300,000 tonnes/year by 2025. However, only a few Member States currently collect and sort PET trays for recycling and face several challenges such as: 👉 High level of impurities in the tray bales 👉 Large variability in the type and colour of feedstock 👉 Insufficient collection and non-standardised sorting activities. Further clarity in legislative developments and more cooperation across the value chain are key to the development of tray-to-tray recycling. What is the last step of the recycling process of a PET bottle ❓ After being turned into flakes, washed and separated by density, the flakes are melted into pellets which will be used to produce brand-new bottles and other items. In order to increase the quality of recycled materials in products, packaging should be designed in the first place to be recyclable ♻ If you missed the previous steps of the PET recycling journey, download our factsheet here 👉 https://lnkd.in/e_cJDdwx #PETbottles #DesignforRecycling #BeveragePackaging #PPWR #RecycledPET #rPET #PETrecycling
