EuRIC, FEAD, EuPC and Plastics Recyclers Europe call on EU institutions to say NO to a priority access clause under the #PPWR🚫 We represent actors in the whole plastic value chain, including users of recycled materials, the waste management sector and recycling activities. This clause would lead to a restriction of the EU internal market for plastics recyclates, weaken all the work carried out by the plastics industry to produce quality recyclates, and hold back investments ♻️ 🚨 Act now and urge EU policymakers to prevent the European plastics recycling market from shrinking. #PPWR #PlasticsRecycling #PlasticRecyclers #CircularPlastics #ClimateNeutralEU #EUGreenDeal

"In a rare show of unity, business and environmental groups have published a joint letter calling on EU policymakers to back mandatory sorting of mixed household waste, saying this is the only way to meet EU recycling goals and prevent the incineration of recyclable paper, metals, and plastics." We simply can not afford to miss an opportunity to capitalize on this joint action between business and ngo's! Everytime again I'm puzzled by the observation that legislation seems to be developed in silo's. Recycling targets can only be achieved when sufficient waste is made available for recycling. Thus if we decide to aim for very ambitious recycling targets (e.g. through PPWR), then we can only achieve that if other legislation (such as WFD) point us in a similar direction or is at least supporting. “We should see mixed waste sorting as an enabling factor that allows member states to achieve the current packaging and municipal solid waste recycling targets,” said Janek Vähk, a campaigner at Zero Waste Europe, one of the environmental groups that signed the joint letter. “Approximately half of the countries have received an early warning for not meeting these targets, and mixed waste sorting could contribute significantly, as recent studies suggest it could provide about 10 million tonnes of additional feedstock for recycling,” Vahk told Euractiv. The vote in the Parliament’s environment committee is expected on 14 February. A plenary vote could still be scheduled in March or April, before the European Parliament officially goes into recess for the June EU elections. Otherwise, the reform will be passed on to the next Parliament. #recycling #recyclingindustry #plasticrecycling #recyclingtechnology #packagingmaterials CPI - Circular Plastics Initiative, European Environmental Bureau, European Plastics Converters | EuPC, Flexible Packaging Europe (FPE), European Manufacturers of Expanded Polystyrene
