I'm very pleased to be able to present a number of SatCen initiatives at the International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (#IGARSS24), a key Earth Observation event currently taking place in Athens with around 2500 participants! On Thursday 11th July 2024, during the session “Remote Sensing for Climate Change Impacts”, I'll provide a comprehensive overview of SatCen R&I and operational activities in the Climate Security domain. The same day, during the session “Citizen and Open Science“, I'll illustrate our work within the SDGs-EYES project to develop a methodology to calculate a security-relevant SDG indicator using EO data. 📌 On June 19-20, EARSC attended the 11th Plenary Meeting of the European Region of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM: Europe) in Geneva, Switzerland. 👉 It was an opportunity to engage with the statistical community and discussed with NSOs European capabilities in monitoring the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals (#SDGs) by leveraging #CopernicusData with specific examples of the #SDGsEYES and ESA SEF projects. 📌 The #SDGsEYES project’s "Pilot 1 – GHG Emissions from Forest Fires" workshop took place as planned on 21 June 2024 at Istat office in Rome: https://lnkd.in/dRGvNeEN 🎯 The demonstration workshop aimed at showcasing and collecting feedback from stakeholders about the different services that have been developed so far within Pilot 1. These services demonstrate better and more enhanced data on #GHG #Emissions from #ForestFires using #SatelliteData and #CopernicusServices.

📌 The #SDGsEYES Project was presented at the 8th Europe Congress of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) in Lisbon. 👥 The project was introduced during an oral presentation in the session Examples and proposals for innovative water governance by Roberta Padulano (Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, former CMCC Foundation - Centro Euro Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici) obtaining positive feedback and fostering discussion about #SDG indicators and the state-of-the-art methods for their computation.
