🥳 It’s official! The inauguration of section D of the Luxembourg tram, linking the Lycée Bouneweg to the new Stadion terminus was celebrated on July 7. As a key partner in the project, Tractebel is proud to have contributed to this important step towards more sustainable mobility in Luxembourg's capital. 👷♀️♀ On the D2 section, Tractebel mobilized its infrastructures expertise in railway systems engineering and project management, in close collaboration with Luxtram, the local authorities and our partners in the design-build contract: SOCOM SA, Groupe SOPINOR & Frateur - De Pourcq (construction) and Paul Wurth Geprolux S.A., Luxplan and TECNA (design). 🚊 The new tramway section boasts five new stations, including two major interchanges: Howald Station for trains and buses, and Stadion for buses and cars. This extension of the network will link the south of the city to the center, making it easier for residents and #commuters to get around. 👨💼💼 Since its launch in 2017, the Luxembourg tramway has played a central role in the daily lives of the capital's residents and the many cross-border commuters who travel to #Luxembourg every day to work. The existing network already carries 110,000 passengers a day. The aim is to extend the network to transport 300,000 passengers per day by 2035. 🏙 The opening of section D of the #tram line is an important step towards Luxembourg's vision of a more livable, #sustainable and more #accessible city. #WeAreTractebel #rail #lightrail #infrastructure #urban #mobility #smartcities #engineering #EngineeringACarbonNeutralFuture LUXTRAM., Ville de Luxembourg., Sameh HODNI., Silvia Allende., Alexandre Vanheule., Alexandre Renault

🏗 Innovation in the field of nuclear decommissioning! Last month, Tractebel participated in the Sfen - Société française d'énergie nucléaire DEM 2024 conference in Avignon at the Palais des Papes. The conference focused on innovation to face recycling and waste management challenges. 💡 Our expert, Stefan Nijst, shared one of Tractebel’s solutions during the panel entitled “Waste Management and Sustainability”, which featured high-level nuclear industry experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), OECD Nuclear Energy Agency, Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, EDF and Orano. He explained how extended decay storage could foster material recycling during decommissioning projects. ⚛ It could complement nuclear decontamination (mechanical, chemical, and nuclear melting) to maximise the volumes eligible for clearance or to allow a waste reclassification (e.g. intermediate to low-level waste) for existing nuclear facilities (e.g. nuclear power plants, cyclotron facilities), future Small Modular Reactors and fusion facilities. It could significantly reduce the project’s carbon footprint and radwaste management costs. The decay storage could be located on- or off-site, or in a centralised national or cross-border facility. 🔄 Tractebel will continue to foster the circular economy of ongoing and future nuclear decommissioning projects! Thank you to the Sfen for organising this event and to Virginie Wasselin for preparing and chairing this inspiring panel.
