About

I am a Speech Language Therapist and lecturer in speech and language therapy at Thomas More University of Applied Sciences (Antwerp Belgium), and a guest lecturer at Vives University of Applied Sciences (Bruges Belgium), specialized in fluency disorders.

I have a particular interest in goal-directed behavior modification in clients, and this from a person-centred, biopsychosocial perspective. I am also a staff member and lecturer within the European Stuttering Specialisation (ESS, formerly known as European Clinical Specialisation in Fluency Disorders -ECSF), and a certified European Fluency Specialist.

For the past 30+ years as a fluency specialist I helped hundreds of people who stutter (preschoolers, school children, teens and adults) to cope with their fluency disorder and achieve their own communicative goals.

I am fascinated by the connection between theory and practice - that is, how to apply and concretize evidence-based, theoretical knowledge and how to substantiate clinical practice by theoretical insights and empirical evidence.

As a lecturer I try to trigger students' curiosity with regard to the underlying processes and mechanisms that may explain why and when specific intervention procedures can (or cannot) be applied effectively.

I find it extremely important to always use the client's goals as a starting point for intervention and to consider how logopaedic interventions can improve, restore or help maintain the client's well-being and participation within society.

Oh, and I have an equal passion for all things music and art! ;-)

And language!! :-)

(And a tea addiction… 🙈)
