Manchester City’s English and Spanish stars were in action again on Thursday as the second round of group matches continued. While England played out a lifeless 1-1 draw, Spain made sure of their progress into the next round with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Italy.

England Fail To Impress Again

Having edged past Serbia, Gareth Southgate’s side faced Denmark and could have qualified for the next round had they beaten the Danes. Phil Foden fired over the bar in the first half before Harry Kane gave England the lead in the 18th minute. But it was a goal primarily made by Kyle Walker. The Denmark defence thought they were in control, but Walker’s blistering pace saw him claim the ball and race into the area. It was a poor cross which eventually found its way to Kane and he slotted home from the edge of the six-yard box.

Denmark levelled on 34 minutes with a stunning drive that hit the post before going in and Foden later fired again over the bar. The City star then hit the post before being withdrawn in the 69th minute. England still top the group, but need to beat Slovenia in the final group match to finish top.

Spain Creep Past Champions

Rodri and Spain secured their spot in the next round of the Euros with victory over Italy. Calafiori’s own goal in the 55th minute was enough to separate the two sides, but Italy should still qualify in second place. Rodri was booked for the second successive game. He was still able to play for the whole of the match, as did former defender Aymeric Laporte. Ex-blue Ferran Torres made an appearance from the substitutes bench.
