And then you're like "fuck it, I'll make my own" and once you've done that you toss it into the goodwill bin to be someone else's prada or container of human teeth

mjrtaurus

And sometimes you gotta go with the container of human teeth purely out of morbid curiosity.

waterme-stories

The container of human teeth is what I was looking for specifically. If you must know.

flywolf33

I once read a fic out of morbid curiosity that was Elias Bouchard x Gerard Keay and it turned out to be Prada disguised as a box of teeth. One of my absolute favorite fics.

Hey y’all!

I started a book club😯

We are currently reading Buried Magic by TJ Green! It’s full of witchcraft and magic. It does have a touch of romance (but doesn’t get super spicy🌶️) It is currently available for free.

We will be reading tons of different books ranging from thrillers, horror, romance and more. Depending on everyone’s reading speeds I’m hoping to do a different book every month or two.

We can be found on the Fable app using the link below. Fable allows everyone to read at their own speed, share highlights, thoughts, and reactions, and even just a spot to hang out with good company!

I’d love for y’all to come read with me!

I just saw someone say AO3 is “gay teens writing gay shit” and I have no idea how to tell you that most of the writers you love so much are adults.

peeledstrawberry

frrrr i look at the notes and the author is always like "sorry for the late upload!!! it's my 10th anniversary and my husband took me skydiving 🥳🥳 plus i've just finished my third phD!! anyways here's 30k"

wolfmadefromash

Yeah…I’m not a teen lol

"Why is your fic so good"

I have a bachelor's in creative writing, a mortgage, and a working knowledge of which cleaners you use to lift grease stains. I am unstoppable.

“Your writing is so good!”

Thanks, my first fanfic had been old enough to serve in the House of Representatives for the past two years.

"I love your fics!"

Thanks! I've literally been writing for over half my life, have several published novels and have worked in a creative field for nearly a decade :D

Managing Emotions

One time, when I was a teenager, I punched my sister in the face.

I can tell you this now because my parents aren’t on Tumblr and also I am thirty years old and can no longer get in trouble for it.

Ha.

Wish that was true.

But, yeah, my sister and I got into some pretty intense arguments over the years. We do better now—mostly because she lives in another state and I focus on avoiding arguments and just enjoying our time to catch up when she visits.

In my opinion, some relationships do so much better long distance.

Another thing that helps keep the peace now is that I have matured enough to be able to direct my ‘big emotions’ in a way that doesn’t always end in a blowup.

I feel things deeply, okay? When I am mad, I am mad. When I am sad, I am really, really sad. When I’m happy and excited, I am . . . waiting for it to implode.

Haha.

Okay, not really, but there is a reason I’ve fought with anxiety and depression most of my life. I have big emotions, and for my family, that was a lot to handle. I was the drama queen, I was overreacting, I was annoying.

That was why it was such a relief to me to read A Wrinkle in Time and to see Meg with her righteous fury and her tears and her overwhelming feelings. I understood her immediately, and it was a relief to walk through the book with her and see how she learned—not to stuff down her emotions—but to direct them in the right way. She learned to breathe through her anger and sort through how she was feeling and choose what the situations in front of her needed.

As someone who was struggling to do that myself—and who wasn’t directed very well on how to do that—this book and Meg were so good for me. I loved seeing her stumble and make mistakes and I loved seeing her conquer and direct herself in the right way.

Even now, at thirty, I still struggle to do that, but I’m getting there.

  1. Though it might be tempting, don’t venture into hedge mazes…no matter what
  2. Be mindful of triggering the wrath of revenge ghosts lest you become a ghost yourself
  3. Beware the dangers of underestimating “docile girls”—it could be a killer mistake
  4. Summoning an ancient evil demon is NEVER a good idea. Seriously.
  5. Trying to steal someone’s home might cost you your soul. It’s never worth it.
  6. Understand that haunted houses have feelings too—the problem is sometimes they’re evil.

Tips provided by Terry J. Benton-Walker, editor and contributor of The White Guy Dies First: 13 Scary Stories of Fear and Power.

WHAT IT’S ABOUT

Killer clowns, a hungry hedge maze, and rich kids who got bored. Friendly cannibals, impossible slashers, and the dead who don’t stay dead....

A museum curator who despises “diasporic inaccuracies.” A sweet girl and her diary of happy thoughts. An old house that just wants friends forever....

These stories are filled with ancient terrors and modern villains, but go ahead, go into the basement, step onto the old plantation, and open the magician’s mystery box because this time, the white guy dies first.

Edited by Terry J. Benton-Walker, including stories from bestselling, award-winning, and up-and-coming contributors: Adiba Jaigirdar, Alexis Henderson, Chloe Gong, Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé, H. E. Edgmon, Kalynn Bayron, Karen Strong, Kendare Blake, Lamar Giles, Mark Oshiro, Naseem Jamnia, Tiffany D. Jackson, and Terry J. Benton-Walker.

A collection you’ll be dying to talk about…if you survive it.
