🍄 The second phase of the Fungi Cosmology research program has taken us from the heart of the Amazon to the breathtaking landscapes of Patagonia, Chile. This journey has been more than just a field trip—it's been a deep dive into the wonders of the Fungi kingdom, where art, science, and nature intersect. 🇨🇱 Over the past weeks, the transdisciplinary team of scientists, artists, and curators has explored the sub-Antarctic forests of Punta Arenas and Tierra del Fuego, documenting the incredible fungi species they encountered. From sunny days to the region's famous winds and rains, they focused on their mission to study, learn, and connect with this unique ecosystem. 🍄🟫 The Fungi Cosmology project is about pushing traditional research boundaries by bringing together diverse perspectives. By fostering collaboration between experts from different fields, the group aims to generate new insights into the #Fungi kingdom and its role in our world. Whether through scientific inquiry, artistic expression, or curatorial practice, each participant brings a unique lens to the research project. 🇨🇭 As we look back on this incredible experience, we're also excited to announce that the final phase of Fungi Cosmology will take place in the Alps of Switzerland in the coming weeks. 🍫Tive a oportunidade, proporcionada pela Swissnex in Brazil de fazer a Rota do Cacau pela Transamazônica, onde conhecemos várias plantações e produtores de cacau a caminho de Santarém. Começamos na Kakao Blumenn, uma pequena produtora de chocolate que valoriza o papel das mulheres em todas as etapas da produção. Em seguida, visitamos a Cacauway, uma empresa que colabora com 40 agricultores familiares para produzir cacau de alta qualidade e promove produtos livres de conservantes. Finalizamos na Fazenda Panorama, que conta com 200 mil pés de cacau em 2027 hectares, produzindo 250 toneladas de amêndoas em 2019, com 20% de cacau especial. Foi uma experiência enriquecedora aprender sobre a produção do cacau e conhecer iniciativas dedicadas à qualidade e sustentabilidade. I had the opportunity, provided by Swissnex, to embark on the Cocoa Route along the Transamazônica, where we explored various cacao plantations and producers on the way to Santarém. We started at Kakao Blumenn, a small chocolate producer that values the role of women at every stage of production. Next, we visited Cacauway, a company that collaborates with 40 family farmers to produce high-quality cocoa and promotes preservative-free products. We concluded at Fazenda Panorama, which has 200,000 cacao trees over 2,027 hectares, producing 250 tons of beans in 2019, with 20% being specialty cocoa. What an adventure!!! I have just returned from an exhilarating two-week program with NexBio Amazônia in the heart of Brazil! 🚀 From the vibrant streets of Belém to the lush landscapes of Altamira and Santarém, every moment was a treasure trove of learning and inspiration. 🌿Deep Dives into Agricultural Commodity Production Visiting cocoa farms of all sizes was truly a game changer for me! I gained invaluable firsthand insights into the intricate agricultural supply chains and deepened my understanding through my research. The passion of the farmers and their unwavering commitment to sustainability left me in awe! 🤝 Conversations with Indigenous Tribes One of the highlights was engaging with local tribes. Their profound wisdom sparked a critical question: Do we need to help them, or do they need to help us? 🌍 This dialogue about innovation, sustainability and coexistence with nature challenged my perspectives and ignited a passion for deeper exploration. 🎤 Sharing My Research I was thrilled to pitch my research at various events (e.g., at A Fundação Amazônia de Amparo a Estudos e Pesquisas — FAPESPA, Incubadora do Xingu, Centro de Inovação Aces Tapajós) and participate in a dynamic panel discussion on sustainability and bioeconomy. The energy in the room was electric, filled with innovative ideas and a shared commitment to making a difference! 🌟 A Lasting Community What truly stands out is the incredible community we've built together. 🌿Innovation meets sustainability in the heart of the Amazon🌿 I recently had the opportunity to participate in the nexBio Amazônia program, a Swiss-Brazilian initiative to foster collaboration and entrepreneurship in the state of Pará. Over two weeks, I gained valuable insights into the local culture and market landscape, engaging in dialogues about innovation, development, and coexistence with nature. 🌱🚀 The program showcased a variety of innovative solutions that demonstrate how to create jobs while preserving the Amazon's rich biodiversity, including the sustainable production of acai and cacao. 🇧🇷🇨🇭The collaboration between Brazilian and Swiss startups underscored the importance of diverse perspectives in addressing global challenges. By sharing ideas and strategies, we can tackle issues like biodiversity loss, climate change and resource depletion more effectively. ⚖️ Engaging in conversations with indigenous tribes was a profound experience. Their wisdom and deep-rooted knowledge of the land is essential as we seek to develop modern solutions that honor the past while looking toward the future. A heartfelt thank you to the organizing team from Swissnex in Brazil, fellow program participants, and all the representatives from government, industry and academia. This experience reinforced my belief that by collaborating, we can uplift communities and drive meaningful, lasting change 🌎

Together, they’ve created a captivating installation that highlights the critical importance of biodiversity preservation and climate action. "Amazônia Mapeada" is more than just an exhibition—it's a manifesto for life, art, and the planet. This immersive experience aims to raise awareness, mobilize, and inspire action in the fight for climate preservation. The installation is a vivid contrast between the Amazon's natural beauty and the devastation caused by recent droughts and fires. Through a blend of artistic photography and environmental DNA sounds, the exhibition sparks a poetic dialogue that invites visitors to reflect deeply on the state of our planet. ⭐️ Seven talented Amazonian artists—Raphael Alves, Tadeu Lima da Rocha e Silva, Michael Dantas, Orlando Junior, Cesar Nogueira, Val Ricardo, and Tiago da Mota e Silva—have also contributed their powerful video and photo archives, providing diverse perspectives on the Amazon’s threats. 🌿 Visit the exhibition before it closes on August 14 at Paiol da Cultura, Bosque da Ciência, INPA - Manaus.
