About

As a stakeholder engagement expert, Cecilia helps organizations to transform the current food system into a more just and sustainable one. She is currently the Aquatic Animal Alliance Engagement Coordinator with the Aquatic Life Institute, an international non-profit organization focused on improving the welfare conditions of aquatic animals exploited in the global food system.

With a background in communications and a master's degree in Science, Environment, and Health Communication from Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona), she has over 15 years of experience working in media outlets and corporate communication. Five years ago, she transitioned her career into the animal advocacy movement and led negotiations with leading corporations to improve their animal welfare procurement policies as the Corporate Relations Manager at Mercy For Animals Brazil.

As a member of the Open Wings Alliance Advisory Committee, she provided input and guidance on the coalition's initiatives and strategy to end the intensive confinement of animals in the food industry; and trained organizations around the world in corporate outreach techniques and strategy.

She has developed strong strategic planning, project management, leadership, negotiation, storytelling, and communication, skills during her career. Previously, as a journalist and public relations, she has helped major global companies to build brand awareness, pitch decks, and improve their reputations.

Besides Portuguese, her native language, she speaks fluent English and Spanish.  Cecilia enjoys cooking, reading, and hanging out with her family and friends outside work. Her goal in life is to create a better world for all beings, human and nonhuman alike.
