From KKS - Katzie, Kwantlen and Semiahmoo First Nations - ‘k'ʷeq'ənəq is the last substantial piece of Crown lands that the Nations are able to negotiate for in our shared traditional territory. As such, it has the potential to be a legacy that we three Nations and Canada leave to show how reconciliation can work in a very urban setting.’ If you are an ally or aspire to allyship please show your support for the rights of these three land based Nations in what is colonially known as Surrey. While their advocacy is getting lots of positive support, there are also comments that are blatantly racist, and full of mis-guided assumptions. As a white, cis-gendered settler I have a lot of privilege, and as someone who identifies as 2SLGTBQ+ person I also know the importance of allyship, and how tiring, demoralizing, and difficult it can be to hear hateful and ignorant commentary. One way to support is to drowned out the negative with positive voices. I encourage everyone to show up for this project and the Nations. They are not asking for anything special, they are advocating for their rights. Rights bestowed by the colonizing government of the time. Not to mention that our current governments have made a commitment to Reconciliation. More information - https://lnkd.in/dPpf_qC3
