Construction was in full force all summer, making sure this warm and inviting space would be ready for the community of Fairfax, Virginia. 💪 Designed to match the natural wooded setting, Blueprint, The Michaels Organization, Quality Buildings LLC, binderholz group, KTGY and our team at ASPECT collaborated on this Mass Timber Project. Contributing Mass Timber Specialty Engineering and Fabrication Design, our role was one of many supporting this affordable housing development. Almost there! There’s truly no place like home… which is why home reno projects have such a special place in our hearts! 🏠💓 Seriously y’all, it’s not all about new builds – we LOVE being able to help achieve a homeowner’s vision while connecting it to a location (and existing building) that is already so meaningful to them. AND with the West 48 Reno in Vancouver, we collaborated with BattersbyHowat Architects Inc to achieve exactly that!😍 This 1980s home underwent extensive renovations, requiring a *delicate* approach to ensure the existing structure was retained. Renovations include an extensive interior reconfiguration, seismic upgrade, an additional first floor living area, second storey office addition, and a serene new courtyard. Homesick no more! Did you know there’s structural engineering required in the development of outdoor art sculptures? That’s right…it isn’t only about buildings y’all! The engineering work that goes into art sculptures may not be noticeable at first blush, but at ASPECT we love when we have the chance to be a part of this type of work.😊 Our role is to find that perfect *balance* between the artist’s vision and the overall safety and durability of the structure. And here’s the thing… there’s no textbook on how to design public art. BUT that’s also what’s so special about this work – the opportunity to think creatively in order to determine what’s going to be appropriate for each sculpture’s unique shape, materiality, and location. AND to spread the love 💓 for all the work that goes into these projects, we’re showcasing FIVE outdoor sculptures by FIVE different artists! We’re really leaning into this whole #HomesickMonth custom home thing hey?! 🏡 😜 Kicking off our third week with the Ambassador Residence. This unique, parallelogram-shaped house was designed by BattersbyHowat Architects Inc, and adapts to the steep Whistler hillside. The three-storey home complements the sloping landscape…and captures our 💗 . As the structural engineer of record, ASPECT used cantilevered light wood frame and steel elements, all set atop a cast-in-place concrete basement. Trading in vacation vibes for the comfort of home isn’t so bad when every angle of your house could also pass for a postcard. 🖼️ It's week two of #HomesickMonth, and our feature this week is quite logical: House with Two Bay Windows. 🪟🪟 This two-storey, 2,600 square foot home in Vancouver, BC was designed by D'arcy Jones Architects, and brings a unique, modern style to a well-established neighbourhood. ASPECT’s use of steel materials and Simpson Strong-Walls (a proprietary structural system) in the structural design helped the team create a bright, airy atmosphere for the home.
