She efficiently keeps the wheels rolling for all our urgent hiring needs without blinking or breaking a sweat. But here's a fun fact: Yusra isn’t a fan of fast food, and she has a particular aversion to cheese! 🙀 When the rest of us dream of cheesy pizzas and mozzarella sticks, she is happy to pass on anything that involves cheese. When she’s not busy managing our team, Yusra has a couple of delightful quirks. She’s a binge-reader who devours books in a day or two – once she starts a book, don’t expect to see her for a while! Her love for reading is matched only by her insatiable sweet tooth for desserts, especially right after a meal. Always on the lookout for her next sweet treat, she brings the same passion to her work and hobbies. And let’s not forget her love for cats. You might find her "cat-calling" every stray cat she sees, dreaming of adopting them all. Are LLMs starting to plateau? Having worked extensively with large language models (LLMs), we understand their immense potential. However, recent research shows that advancements in LLMs are starting to plateau. As Gary Marcus, former head of Uber AI and author of “Rebooting AI", notes, "Some of them are a little better than GPT-4, but there’s no quantum leap. I think everybody would say that GPT-4 is a quantum step ahead of GPT-3.5. There hasn’t been any [quantum leap] in over a year." The performance gap is closing, and the drawbacks of LLMs—high costs, resource intensity, and issues with hallucinations—are becoming more apparent. This shift in the landscape is paving the way for small language models (SLMs). These compact models are not only more efficient and cost-effective but also faster to train and deploy, making advanced AI accessible to more businesses and industries. From healthcare to finance, SLMs are proving that powerful AI doesn't have to be enormous.
