This afternoon, staff at Bird Construction in Halifax had the honour of participating in a Mi’kmaw Knowledge exchange with traditionalist, Tonya Francis Francis from Pictou Landing First Nation. The team embraced the opportunity to smudge and make their own traditional tobacco ties to respectfully hang in the sacred space, prior to our visit to the National historic site of the Mi’kmaw petroglyphs in Bedford, NS. It was a good day to have a good day! Wela’lioq (Thank you all) #knowledgesharing #mikmaki #mikmaq #indigenousawareness #traditionalknowledge #ourbestbuildyet

Some great laughs and very creative presentations today at the Braided Journeys Indigenous Youth Internship Program Learning Circle with CAREERS Bird Construction’s Indigenous Relations team had the privilege of presenting to four cohorts of youth who put on their IR caps to engage with us in a mini mind-mapping session. Together, the groups brainstormed some possible initiatives aimed at integrating Indigenous knowledge into industry operations in a culturally responsive way. Some crowd favourites: ✅NorthSideBaby Concert in the Bird Parking Lot ✅The “travelling powwow” ✅Jigging competition judged by Notorious Cree and Chief Cody Thomas It’s so fun seeing youth get engaged and curious about a career path we are so passionate about. The teacher in me is so happy. #ourbestbuildyet #indigenousyouth #careerexploration #braidedjourneys #collaboration
