BLG’s Kate L. Agyemang, a recipient of this year’s Forty Under 40 award from the Ottawa Business Journal and the Ottawa Board of Trade, shared what she enjoys most about Ottawa’s downtown core. “Ottawa’s ability to feel like a small-town hidden gem while being home to so many locally owned businesses providing world-class services, products and expertise,” says Kate. "There is a level of pride and satisfaction that comes with giving back that cannot be measured. It is funny how sometimes you think you are just helping someone else, and in the end, you are lifted as well," says BLG's Johanne S., who is one of many firm members who have taken advantage of the Community Contribution Policy that allows BLGers to take a day off from work to volunteer with a local charity or non-profit. Katherine Dudtschak, (she / her) ICD.D, a trailblazer in inclusion and CEO of HomeEquity Bank, joined BLG's Peter Sullivan (he/him/his), chair of BLG's PRIDE Action Committee, for our national Pride webinar. Hundreds of firm members, clients, and alumni gathered to hear Katherine share her personal gender affirmation story and learned how we can support one another to foster a more inclusive society. Here are some key takeaways from this important discussion: - Showing vulnerability and revealing different sides of yourself can create an environment where others feel safe and comfortable being their true selves in your presence. - People should have the opportunity to tell their own stories in their own way. - Approaching challenges with kindness leads to more holistic, human solutions.

In honor of National Indigenous History Month in Canada, we encourage you to celebrate the cultures, languages, contributions, and heritage of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. This June is extra special for Marcel Colomb First Nation, a remote Northern Manitoba First Nation, as it marks 25 years since being formally recognized as a distinct First Nation by the Canadian government. MCFN commemorated this milestone on June 19th with a ceremony in Black Sturgeon. Last year, Chris Roine and a BLG team had the privilege of representing MCFN in negotiating a groundbreaking revenue-sharing agreement with Alamos Gold Inc. for the proposed Lynn Lake Gold Project. The agreement and project are poised to benefit the community through commitments on jobs and training, heightened environmental protections, and revenue sharing. You can read more in the linked article. Let's continue to honor and support the rich history and promising future of Indigenous communities across Canada. https://lnkd.in/gTTKdpVP
