Since its founding in 1948 by its owner, the Toronto Zionist Council, Camp Shalom has remained committed to Zionist and Judaic principles which inform every facet of camp life. It its daily activities Camp Shalom endeavours to promote identification with the State of Israel and with Judaism through its employment of Israeli shlichim and its observance of ritual practices and moral precepts. The Camp Shalom Experience incorporates a strong commitment to the preservation of the natural environment and an appreciation of our heritage. At all times, Camp Shalom is dedicated to: Ensuring the health and safety of campers and staff; Providing an enjoyable summer during which children are encouraged to participate according to their aptitudes and capabilities; Incorporating Israeli song and dance and traditional practices into daily activities; Promoting mature, healthy social behaviour and a sense of community responsibility; The ideal of “hadracha b’dugma” (leadership by example), setting the highest standards of social responsibility and self discipline for oneself, and expecting the same from others.
