Nothing big gets solved by one person. To take on cancer, it takes all of us. It takes a society. 💛
About us
What does it take to take on cancer? It takes all of us. We all know the saying ‘It takes a village.’ But to take on cancer, it takes more than a village. We believe it takes a society. It takes a community – of patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, researchers, advocates, donors, supporters and volunteers – rallying together around a shared cause. Profound impact is possible when we combine our actions with the actions of others. Our goal at the Canadian Cancer Society is to inspire people of all ages, from all backgrounds and all parts of the country to come together to take on cancer’s biggest issues. Nothing big gets solved by one person. To take on cancer, it takes all of us. It takes a society. 💛

At the beginning of July, I had the most incredible opportunity to spend a week at Camp Goodtimes as a volunteer! For those of you that don't know, Camp Goodtimes is a free program we offer at the Canadian Cancer Society where kids with cancer can just be kids and where families impacted by cancer can connect. My role at family camp was that of a Host, which meant I got to act as a personal concierge for my assigned family to ensure they had the absolute best camp experience - I took them for morning paddle, sat with them for breakfast, lunch and dinner, did high ropes, water trampoline and archery and sometimes I was just there for a chat. My camp experience showed me first-hand just how important programs like these are for families and their kiddos. If you're interested in learning more about how you can get involved whether it's volunteering yourself or donating, check out www.campgoodtimes.org 🏕 💛 #volunteer #volunteeropportunity #donate

When Cynthia Denault was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, she was stunned and wasn’t sure what to expect. “When I heard the words ‘you have cancer’ it felt like nothing made sense,” said Cynthia. Anxious and afraid about what would come after her diagnosis, Cynthia turned to the Canadian Cancer Society for the information she needed. She found our website, cancer.ca, to be a useful resource in helping her understand what to expect during her cancer experience. “It was great having access to timely, accurate information at my fingertips,” Cynthia explained. Since 1988, HealthPartners - PartenaireSanté has supported us by raising funds that help us create and share accurate and reliable cancer information. Thanks to their generosity, we can help educate and empower Canadians like Cynthia who are affected by cancer. 💛 Read more about some of our volunteers here: https://lnkd.in/gMCgf5HX

Of those diagnosed with cancer in Canada, nearly 40% are in their working years. With more people surviving cancer than ever before, more are willing and eager to go back to work after treatment. They deserve to know they have a job to come back to. Job protected leave is minimal in some provinces and inconsistent across the country. I wrote in the Vancouver Sun today about what the BC Government can do to ensure better job security while workers with cancer take the time off that they need to heal. https://lnkd.in/g2FzGX4W
Opinion: British Columbians with cancer face loss in income, but shouldn’t have to lose their jobs as well
